President seeks report on river-linking project

MALDA, Oct. 3. — President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam has sought a report on the present status of the national river-linking project from the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, the Union minister of water resources development, Mr Priya Ranjan Das Munshi said here yesterday.

Mr Das Munshi also said that he would meet the President on 6 October in New Delhi to inform him about the present situation of the project. “The Prime Minister has asked me to meet the President,” he said.
The Union minister came to Malda to attend an organisational meeting with the Congress leaders of the northern part of Malda district.

He said that he would also hold a meeting with the Malda district magistrate on the issue of Ashapur bridge, presently an “abandoned project” in Chanchal. — SNS
