SOUTH ASIAN CONFERENCE ON SANITATION (SACOSAN) Participant Speakers: Expression of Interest There are currently a number of slots available for delegates to make short presentations (10 minutes) to discussion groups, on the following themes:
Organizations are asked to highlight specific approaches that have overcome obstacles to good sanitary practice. Examples might include, for example, awareness-raising through school sanitation programmes (motivation & collective action), the role of small private providers (supply & demand), the move away from subsidies (making sanitation work), sharing best practice with local government (institutional support) and community-centered incentives for the alleviation of open defecation (strategies to reach poorest of the poor). Presentations should attempt to: (i) give a regional overview, as well as; (ii) citing specific local examples that have been successful in raising the profile of sanitation across a range of stakeholders. If preferable, participants can join together and present these two perspectives at the same time, by dividing up the responsibility for each perspective. Given SACOSAN’s policy-focus, it would be good to see examples of how these initiatives were brought forward as priorities for Governments. This will invariably mean discussing advocacy work. If you are interested in presenting a paper one of these themes, please express interest by emailing a draft of your paper (no longer than 15 pages) by no later than 10th October 2003, to: Prof. M. Feroze Ahmed, Chairman, Technical Sub-Committee, ([email protected]) Ryan Knox, Conference Coordinator ([email protected]) M. Shariful Alam, Coordinator for SACOSAN Secretariat, ([email protected]) |
