SOUTH ASIAN CONFERENCE ON SANITATION (SACOSAN)
21st – 23rd October 2003
Guidelines for participant
selection and invitation
- The co-hosts of the South Asian Conference on Sanitation (SACOSAN),
request their representations in participating countries to form a Support
Group of development partners, who will be responsible for selecting,
inviting and sponsoring delegates, based on the following criteria:
-
Delegates may be from the
public or private sectors, civil society, external support agencies,
academia or the media.
-
They should preferably be
at a managerial or professional level, actively engaged in policy
formulation and implementation of sanitation in South Asia, and should
be willing to bring their knowledge/experience to the table.
-
Applicants must be
available in Dhaka on 20th October 2003 and be able to stay until the
conference finishes on the evening of 23rd October.
-
Applicants should expect
a participatory working conference, with long hours and draft
documentation to be studied in advance.
- Support group of each country will select the country focal point
amongst themselves. The focal point will be the contact person to
distribute and receive Application Forms, and to facilitate the overall
process. This person’s email address should be inserted on the second
page of the attached Application Form.
- It has been estimated that approximately 250 guests will be invited.
Each country will have between 5 and 20 delegates, between 2 and 8 of
which will represent Government. Since SACOSAN will represent the views
of a number of different stakeholders working with sanitation in South
Asia, there will also be delegates from development partners, NGOs,
academia, the media and the private sector. Representation of each group
may vary according to the discretion of the Support Group.
- Support Groups should distribute the Application Form by email to
all non-Government invitees. Governments will deal with
selection of their own delegates, but Support Groups should liase with their respective Governments
regarding the selection of
other participants.
- Support Groups will need to make arrangements for sponsorship of
participants between themselves. The arrangements made by the support
group in each country should be communicated to the SACOSAN Secretariat,
M. Shariful Alam, Coordinator for SACOSAN Secretariat on
[email protected] as early as possible. The Conference Secretariat
in Dhaka will bear the following local costs: the venue, local
transport, lunches, teas, field visits, cultural events and official
dinner.
- Applications should be returned by email to the Support Group who in turn should select the final participants and
forward their applications to the Conference Secretariat, M. Shariful
Alam, Coordinator for SACOSAN Secretariat on
[email protected].
- The Conference Coordinator, Ryan Knox, will be visiting Support
Groups in each country throughout August and September, to assist with
the selection process and to facilitate the preparation of country and
thematic presentations. Should you have any urgent queries, please feel
free to contact him on
[email protected] with copy to the Conference
Secretariat, M. Shariful Alam, Coordinator for SACOSAN Secretariat on
[email protected].
