List of Paurashavas in Bangladesh


There are 107 paurashavas in Bangladesh according to 1991 census having a total population of 11725860 persons with a total area of 2225.53 sq. km. In 1981 there were 77 Municipalities. In 1991 30 Municipalities were added. These 107 Municipalities account for 56.18 percent of the total urban population. After 1991 Census 16 new municipalities were created in consequence of which the total number of municipalities in the country rose the 123. Detatils of which are given below :-

1) Fulbari Paurashava :
Fulbari paurashava was established in the year 1983. It has a population of 23469 persons with an area of 16.03 sq.km. The paurashava comprises of 12 mauzas containing 3 wards. The mauzas are krishnapur, sudjapur, chakchaka, Katabari, Gauripara, Kanahar Tentulia, purba Chandrapur, Chak Shahbajpur, Barakona, Mollapara and Sujan pukuhes. The wards occupy areas of 4.99, 6.86 and 4.17 sq.km for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 2 dak bungalows, 2 cinema halls, 4 playgrounds, in this paurashava. The Paurashava falls under the category of "C" class. Main events of paurashava can be seen from the table 4.3.1

2) Thakurgaon Paurashava :
Thakurgaon municipality was established in the year 1953. It covers an area of 10.70 sk.km. with a population of 34206 persons according to 1991 census. The paurashava comprises of 6 mauzas containing 3 wards. The mauzas are salandar Gobinda Nagar, Barunagran (P) Jaganhathpur, Akcha (p) Akcha (P) and Nischintapur. The wards occupy areas of 2.43, 2.59 and 5.68 sq.km. for the wards 01,02 and 03 respectively. There are 1 dak bungalow, 4 cinema halls, 2 libraries, 2 playgrounds in this paurashava. 3) Panchagarh Paurashava :
Panchagarh paurashava was established in the year 1985. It covers an area of 11.36 sq.km. with a population of 30500 persons. The paurashava comprises of 6 mauzas with 3 wards. The mauzas are Molani(P), omarpur(p), Dakkamara(P), Temonimari(P) puratan Panchagarh and panchagarh. The wards occupy areas of 4.29, 5.41, and 1.65 sq.km for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 1 educational institutuion, 1 dak bungalow, 1 cinema hall, 1 library, 2 playgrounds, 1 public toilet, 1 com.center, 1 clinic/hospital in this paurashava. The paurashava falls under the category of " B" class. Main events of paurashava can be seen from the table 4.3.3

4) Pirganj Paurashava:

Pirganj paurashava was established in the year 1989. It covers an area of 20.37 sq.km with a population of 17807 persons. The paurashva comprises of 7 mauzas with 3 wards. The mauzas are Miteabati, Ragunathpur, Bathpaligaon, Jagtha, Guagaon, Bhakura and Bhelatair. The wards occupy areas of 3.99, 695 and 9.44 sq.km for 01,02 and 03 respectively. There are 19 educational institutions, 3 dak bungalows, 3 cinema halls, 1 library, 3 playgrounds, 3 public toilets in this paurashava. The paurashava falls under the category of "C" class. 5) Barisal Paurashava :-

The Barisal municipality was established in the year 1876. The Barisal municipality was reconstituted under the basic democracies order. 1957 as a municipal comittee as per provisions of the municipal administration ordinance,1960. After the independence of Bangladesh. Barisal town comittee was constituted as the Barisal

Paurashava. It is the oldest and largest paurashava of Barisal zila. The paurashava covers an area of 16.37sq.km.with a population of 170232 persons. It comprises of 5 mauzas with 10 wards. The mauzas are kaunia, Amanatganj, Barisal, Bagura Alekanda and sagardi. The wards occupy areas of 2.13, 1.69, 0.40, 1.21, 2.83 4.23, 1.17, 0.40, 0.40 and 1.89 sq.km for wards 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07,08, 09 and 10 respectively. There are 101 educational institutions, 6 dak bungalows, 4 cinema halls, 50 libraries, 19 playgrounds, 3 public toilet, 2 com.center, 12 clinics/hospitals in this Paurashava. 6) Bakerganj Paurashava :

Bakerganj paurashava is another paurashava of Barisal zila established in the year 1990. It covers an area of 6.22 sq.km. with a population of 10159 persons. The paurashava comprises of 5 mauzas with 3 wards. The wards cover the areas of 1.19, 2.40, and 2.64 sq.km for wards 01,02 and 03 respectively. The mauzas are char Rangsres, Runsee(Part), Bakerganj, Rangsree and Bharpasha(part). There are 2 dak bungalows, 1 cinema halls, 1 library, 2 playgrounds, 1 com.center in this paurashava. The paurashava falls under the category of "C" Class. Main events of paurashava can be seen from the table 4.3.6

7) Banaripara Paurashava :

Banaripara paurashava is the smallest paurashava of Barisal zila. It was established in the year 1990. It has an area of 1.81 sq.km. with a Population of 7883 persons. The
 

paurashava consists of 2 mauzas with 3 wards. The mauzas are Banaripara and kundihar. The wards occupy areas of 0.59, 0.40 and 0.81 sq.km for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 6 educational institutions, 1 dak bungalow, 1 cinema hall, 1 library, 2 playgrounds, 1 clinic/hospital in this paurashava. The paurashava falls under the category of "C" class. 8) Jhalokati paurashava :

The Jhalokati municipality was established in the year 1875. With the promulation of the basic democracies order 1959, the municipality was reconstituted as a town committee. After independence of Bangladesh local councils and Municipal committees order was passed in 1972. According to this order Jhalokati town committee was constituted as the Jhalakati Paurashava. Jhalokati paurashava covers an area of 6.37 sq.km with a population of 35227 persons. It comprises of 6 mauzas with 3 wards. The mauzas are parkipaitnagar, Rifaitnagar, Jhalakati, Chankati, Natuncharjhalo kati and charjhalokati. The words occupy the areas of 3.70, 0.70 and 1.97 sq.km for wards 01,02 and 03 respectively. There are 26 educational institutions, 2 dak bungalows, 2 cinema halls, 3 libraries, 1 playgrounds, 1 public toilet, 1 clinic/hospital in this paurashava. 9) Nalchity Paurashava :

The Nalchity paurashava is the biggest paurashava of Jhalokati zila. Nalchity municipality was established in 1875 the same year as establishment of Jhalokati paurashava. With the introduction of basic democracies in the country in 1960, the Nalchity municipality was renamed as the Nalchity town committee. After independence of Bangladesh the Nalchity town committee was reconstituted as the Nalchity paurashava. The paurashava cover an area of 24.16 sq.km with 17 mauzas bearing 3 wards. The total population of the paurashava is 28048. The mauzas are Nanguli, Nalipur, Nalchity, Nandikati, Khajuria Parampassa, Sitalpara, Baichandi, Surjyapasa, Sardal, Gauripasa, Anuragdarichar Anuras, Farasina, Bhangadeulia, Sankarpasa and Kandapasa. The wards occupy areas of 8.74, 5.70 and 9.72 sq.km for wards 01,02 and 03 respectively. There are 28 educational institutions, 1 dak bungalow, 4 playgrounds, 1 public toilet, 2 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. The paurashava falls under the category of "C" class. 10) Pirojpur Paurashava :

The Pirojpur municipality was established in 1885. As per provisions of the municipal administration ordinance under the basic democracies order, 1959, the pirojpur municipality was renamed as pirojpur town committee. After independence of Bangladesh the town committee was constituted as the Pirojpur paurashava. Pirojpur Paurashava is the only paurashava of Pirojpur zila. It has an area of 15.12 sq.km. with 12 mauzas containing 3 Wards. The total population of the paurashava is 32720. The mauzas are Alamkati, Mukterkati, Khomaria, Jhatkati, Sikarpur, Kumarkhali, Chhota Khalisha Khali, Bara Khalishakhali, Pirojpur, Machimpur, Krishnanagar and part of Royerkati. The wards occupy areas of 6.39, 5.36 and 3.36 sq.km for 01,02 and 03 respectively. There are 70 educational institutions, 5 dak bungalows, 2 cinema halls, 22 club/libraries, 6 playgrounds, 8 public toilets, 6 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. 11) Bhola Paurashava :

The Bhola municipality was established in the year 1920. After the promulagation of the basic democracies order, 1959 the municipality was reconstituted as the Bhola town committee. By the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972, the Bhola town committee was reconstituted as the Bhola paurashava in 1972. It is the only paurashava of Bhola zila. Bhola paurashava covers an area of 22.67 sq.km with 6 mauzas containing 3 wards. The total population of paurashava is 34391. The mauzas are Bapta, Nabipara, chhota Algi, Jamirtala, Charnawabad and charjangai . The wards occupy areas of 11.42 , 4.90 and 6.34 sq.km for 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 12 educational institutions, 2 dak bunalows, 1 cinema halls, 3 libraries, 8 playgrounds, 4 public toilets, 3 clinic/hospitals in the paurashava. 12) Patuakhali Paurashava:

The Potuakhali municipality was established in the year 1892 with an area of 3.50 sq.miles (5.81 sq.km). The Patuakhali municipality was reconstituted under the basic democracies order, 1959 as a town committee as per provisions of the municipal administration ordinance, 1960. It was declared a municipal committee and was replaced by a paurashava by the Bangladesh local councils and Municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972. It is the only paurashava of Patuakhali zila. It covers an area of 12.66sq.km. with 3 mauzas containing 3 wards. The total Population is 44550. The

mauzas are patuakhali, Bholagachhi and Keshabpura. The wards occupy areas of 4.13, 2.03 and 6.49 sq.km. for wards 01,02 and 03 respectively. There are 28 educational institutions, 5 dak bungalows, 3 cinema halls, 5 libraries, 4 playgrounds, 8 public toilets, 4 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. 13) Barguna Paurashava :

The Barguna paurashava was established in the year 1973 with an area of 9 sq. miles (14.94sq.km). It has a total area of 15.57 sq.km. comprising of 3 mauzas with 3 wards. The mauzas are Bausbaria, Karoitala maitha and Barguna. The total population of the paurashava is 22213. The wards occupy areas of 7.88 5.85 and 1.84 sq.km for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 19 educational institutions, 3 dak bungalows, 2 cinema halls, 2 libraries, 4 playgrounds, 3 public toilets, 2 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. 14) Rangpur Paurashava:

The Rangpur municipality was established in the year 1869. The municipality was reconstituted as Rangpur municipal committee in accordance with the provisions of the municipal administration ordinace 1960. The Rangpur municipal committee was replaced by a paurashava in 1972 as per provisions of the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972, It is

the largest and oldest paurashava of Rangpur zila with an area of 42.57 sq.km. comprising of 21 mauzas with 6 wards. The total population of the paurashava is 191398. The mauzas are Kachhu, Kaimagulikukrul Debottar Taluk, Dhap (P)Kellabanda (P) Bhagi (P) Nilkatha, Guda simla(P) Kukrul (P), Manogopal(P), Nachnia, BirBhadra, kamalkachna, Radhaballabh, Amasa(P) Ragunathganj, Alamnagan(P), Satgara, Tajhat(P) Bara Rangpur(P) Mahiganj, Kalabari(P), Chota Rangpur(P), Parbatipur(P), Rampira(P), Deodova(P), Pirjabad(P), Binodpur(P) Darshana Pahari(P), Uttam(P), goneshpur(P), Khorda Rangpur Bahaskachna(P), Naohatikachna(P) Arazidam Khamen(P), The wards cover area 16.32, 6.27, 3.18, 1.62, 6.34 and 6.43 sq.km for wards 01, 02, 03, 04 and 05 respectively. There are 82 educational institutions, 2 dak bungalows, 6 cinema halls, 3 libraries, 5 playgrounds, 4 public toilets, 2 com.centers, 27 clinic/hospitals in this Paurashava. 15) Haragacha Paurashava :

Haragacha paurashava was established in the year 1986. It is the smallest paurashava of Ranapur zila with an area of 16.13 sq.km comprising of 7 mauzas with 3 wards. The total population of the paurashava is 54821. The mauzas are Banupara, Charubhadra and part of Haragachh chatura, sarai, Dumerkuthi, Haragachh and Thakndas(P) . The area covers 2.87(P),620, and 7.06 sq.km for wards 01,02 and 03 respectively. There are 3 educational institions, 2 cinema halls, 1 library, 1 playgrounds, 1 com.center, 2 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. The paurashava falls under the category of "C" class. 16) Nilphamari Paurashava :

Nilphamari town committee was established in 1965. After independence of Bangladesh the Nilphamari town committee was replaced by a paurashava as per provisions of the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committee (Amendment) order, 1972. The total area of the paurashava is 19.53 sq.km. covering 6 mauzas in 3 wards. The total population of the paurashava is 31881. The mauzas are Haroa, Nilphamari Bazar(P), Nilphamari Town, Chittakhola, Arazi Kanialkhata and Kukha Para. The wards comprising areas of 1.62, 3.48 and 14.42 sq.km. for wards 01,02 and 03 respectively. There are 1 dak bungalow, 3 cinema halls, 2 libraries, 2 playgrounds, 2 public toilets, 1 com.center in this paurashava. The paurashava falls under the category of "C" class. 17) Saidpur Paurashava :

The saidpur minicipality was established in the year 1958. It was reconstituted as municipal committee in 1960. The Saidpur municipal committee was replaced by the saidpur paurashava as per provisions of the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972 and the Bangladesh local government(Union parishad and Paurashava) order, 1973. It is the largest and oldest paurashava of Nilphamari aila with an area of 34.42 sq.km. comprising of 8 mauzas with 5 wards.The total population of the paurashava is 96777 as per 1991 census. The mauzas are Khord Botlagari, Botlagari, Kundal, Kaya, Neyamatpur, Saiyedpur, Banglaipur and Barisal Para. The wards cover areas of 6.54, 4.62, 4.71, 8.18 and 10.36 sq.km for wards 01, 02, 03 04 and 05 respectively. There are 3 dak bungalows, 5 cinema halls, 1 libraries, 7 playgrounds, 3 public toilets, 1 com.center, 2 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. The paurashava falls under the category of "B" class. 18) Gaibandha Paurashava :

The Gaibandha municipality was established in 1923. It was reconstituted as a town committee in 1960. In accordance with the municipal administration ordinance of 1960. The Gaibandha town committee was reconstituted as a paurashava under the provisions of the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972 and Bangladesh local Government (union Parishad and Paurashava) order, 1973. Gaibandha paurashava has an area of 17.63 sq.km comprising of 9 mauzas with 3 wards having population of 40426. The mauzas are Narayon Para (P), Baniarjan, Gabindapur(P), Paschim Komarnai(P), Purba Komarnai, Dhanghora(P), Dakshin Dhanghara(P), Konakroy(P), Jolikalika Prasad. The wards occupy areas of 4.41, 4.65 and 8.57 sq.km for wards 01,02 and 03 respectively. There are 12 educational institutions, 1 dak bungalow, 3 cinema halls, 1 library, 1 com.center, 6 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. The paurashava falls under the category of "B" class. 19) Kurigram Paurashava :

The union council of Kurigram was reconstituted as a town committee in 1964 in accordance with the municipal administration ordinance of 1960. The Kurigram town committee was replaced by the Kurigram paurashava in 1972. The total area of the Paurashava is 16.17 sqkm (revised 20.57 sq.km.) consisting of 3 wards with 71 mauzas. The total Population of the Paurashava is 58191. The mauzas are krishnpur, Nazira, Bhelacopa, Kurigram, Hingul Ray, Kaleand polasbari. The wards occpy areas of and 3.22, 4.42 and 8.53 sq km for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 2 dak bungalows, 4 cinema halls, 3 libraries, 3 playgrounds, 2 com.centers in this paurashava. 20) Lalmonirhat Paurashava :

The Lalmonirhat town committee was constituted in 1965. After the independence of Bangladesh according to the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972 and the Bangladesh local government (union parishad and paurashava) order, 1973 the Lalmonirhat town committeewas reconstituted as a paurashava. The paurashava has an area of 17.62 sq.km consisting of 4 mauzas with 3 wards. The total Population of the paurashava according to 1991 census is 47090. The mauzas are khochabari, Talukkhutamara, Khorda Saptana and Saptann. The wards occpy areas of 5.67, 7.28 and 4.67 sq.km. for wards 01,02 and 03 respectively. There are 2 dak bungalows, 4 cinema halls, 3 libraries, 2 public toilets, 3 playgrounds, 2 com.centers, 3 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. The paurashava falls under the category of "C" class. 21) Pabna Paurashava:

The Pabna municipality was established in 1876. It was reconstituted as a municipal committee as per provisions of the municipal administration ordinance of 1960. According to the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972 the Pabna. Municipal committee was reconstituted as a paurashava. It is the oldest paurashava of Pabna zila. The paurashava has an area of 18.64 sq.km consisting of 17 mauzas with 6 wards. The population of the paurashava according to 1991 census is 103277. The Ishwardi paurashava was established in 1974. It is the largest paurashava of Pabna zila with an area of 23.73 sq.km having population of 51633 persons according to 1991 census. The paurashava comprises of 16 mauzas with 3 wards. The mauzas are Ista, SaraGopalpur, Piarakhali, Sailpara, Ishwardi, Fate- Mahmud, Patilakhali, Dari Naricha, Tegra, Masuriapara, Masuria, Naricha Mashria, Bhutargari, Naricha, Arankhola and Maijdia. The paurashava covers an area of 1952 sq.km (counted full mauza) with a population of 58857 persons according to 1991 census. The paurashava comprises of 7 mauzas with 3 wards. The Bera paurashava is a new and smallest paurashava of Pabana zila. It was established in 1992.It covers an area of 1828 sq.km comprising of 16 mauzas with 3 wards having a population of 39496 persons according to 1991 census. The Sirajganj municipality was established in the year 1969. It was reconstituted as municipal committee in the year 1960. 26) Rajshahi City corporation :

The Rajshahi municipality in the name of Ranpur Boalia was made a municipality in 1876. It was functioning as the municipal committee in terms of the basic democracies order of 1959. Rajshahi paurashava replaced the Rajshahi municipal committee by the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committee order, 1972. 27) Natore Paurashava:

The Natore municipality was established in 1869. In 1960 it was degraded to a town committee in terms of basic demoracies order of 1959. Natore town committee was replaced by Natore shahar committee according to Bangladesh local councils and municipal committee order, 1973. It was constituted as a paurashava 1993 Natore is the smallest paurashava of Natore Zila with a total area of 11.82 sq.km (with extension 15.05). It comprises of 7 mauzas with 3 wards. The Naogaon municipal committee came into existence in 1963 as successor of Naogaon union council. Sarupnagar, Sehala, Haripur, Baligram, Jotprotap, Nawabgonj, Char Jorprotap, Rehaichar, Charnayan Shuka, Nayan Shuka, Shankarbati, Mohanpur, Rajarampur, Nimgachhi.(part) Islampur(part) Dariapur, Brammandanga, Uttar Bhabanipur, Kathabagichi, Nayagola, Kalyanpur, and satnail. The wards accpuy areas of 13.40, 11.37, 6.07,7.16 and 8.25 sq.km for wards 01,02,03,04,05,06 and 07 respectively. The Chittagong municipality was established in the year 1864. It was reconstituted to Chittagong municipal committee under the municipal administration ordinance of 1960. The wards occupy areas of 5.63, 3.30 and 3.67 sq.km. for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. 39) Lakshmipur Paurashava:

The Lakshmipur paurashava was established in 1976.It is the smallest paurashava among two paurashava of lakshmipur zila. Lakshmipur town committee was reconstituted as Lakshmipur paurashava in 1976. It couses an area of 16.88 sq.km having a population of 41395 persons according to 1991 census. The paurashava consists of 4 mauzas containing 3 wards. The mauzas are paschim Sahapur, Banchanagar (Part), Shamserabad and Mazupur. The wards possesses areas of 9.48, 2.17 and 5.22 sq.km for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 15 educational institution, 1 dak bungalow, 2 cinema halls, 1 library, 2 public toilets, 3 playgrounds, 1 com.center, 1 clinic/hospital in this paurashava. 40) Comilla Paurashava :

The comilla municipality was established in 1864. It was reconstituted as a municipal committee in 1960 as per provisions of the municipal administeration ordinance of 1960. According to the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees order, 1972 the Comilla municipal committee was replaced by a paurashava. Comilla is the oldest but in area the smallest paurashava among two paurashavas of Comilla zila. It has an area of 11.47 sq. km (100% Mouzas area) with a population of 135313 persons according to 1991 census. It consists of 18 mauzas comprising of 6 wards. The mauzas are Bhatpara, Kaliajuri paschim Bishnupur, Choora, Sasangachha (part), sujagonj Manoharpur, Kandirpar, Dakshin charta, Bajrapur, Purbaourgapur, Gobindapur, Sangrais, Subhapur, Chandpur, Barpara, Muradpur and uttarcharta. The wards possesses areas of 2.08, 1.36, 1.92, 2.53, 1.64 and 1.92 sq. km for wards 01, 02 03, 04, 05 and 06 respectively. There are 121 educational institutions, 4 dak bungalows, 5 cinema halls, 4 libraries, 2 playgrounds, 1 com. center, 12 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. 41) Laksham Paurashava:

Laksham paurashava was established in the year 1985. Though it is a new paurashava but in area it is the largest paurashava of Comilla zila. It covers an area of 14.30 sq.km with a population of 48024 persons as per 1991 census. It consist of 22 mauzas comprising of 3 wards. The mauzas are Madhyasripur, Misri, Kundra, Gunti, Binai, Gopalpur, Siurain, Duriabishnupur, Paikpara, Kumardaga, Liaksham, Bhojpara, purba satbaria, paschimgaon, pyarapur, Gazirmura, Uttarkul Baratupa, Bainchimgaon, Nasratpachimpur, Kadra and part of Purba Fatehpur. The wards accupy areas of 0.60, 5.97 and 7.73 sq. km. for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 20 educational institutions, 1 dak bungalow, 3 cinema halls, 5 libraries, 2 public toilets, 4 playgrounds, 1 com. center, 3 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. 42) Brahmanbaria paurashava:

The Brahmanbaria municipality was established in 1869. It was reconstituted as a municipal committee in the year 1960 in terms of municipal adminsitration ordinance of the same year. according to the Bangladesh local councils and municipal (Amendment) order, 1972, the Brahmanbaria Municipal committee was replaced by a paurashava. It is the only paurashava of Brahmanbaria zila with an area of 30.82 sq. km. (revised) having a population of 109032 persons according to 1991 census. The Paurashava consists of 21 mauzas containing 4 wards. The mauzas are Sariatpur, paschim Daraipur, Chhayghariapara, Pairtala, Baragokarna, Paschim Chhaybaria, Puniaut, Maurail, Brahmanbaria, Khaiasar, Paschimpaikpara, Simrailrandi, Merura, Bhadugar, Kautali, Paschim Datiara, Pachim Fulbaria, Chandalkhil, Chhotagokarana, Paschim Nayanpur and Bealliswar. The wards accupy area of 7.60, 6.21, 3.45 and 13.56 sq.km for wards 01, 02, 03 and 04 respectively. There are 72 educational institutions, 4 dak bungalows, 3 cinema halls, 2 libraries, 8 public toilets, 2 playgrounds, 4 com.centers, 13 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. The Chandpur municipality was established in 1897. It was reconstituted as a municipal committee in the year 1960 under the provision of the municipal adminsitration ordinance of the same year. According to the Bangladesh local councils and municipal (Amendment) order, 1972, the Chandpur municipal committee was replace by a paurashava. It has an area of 7.77 sq. km. having a population of 73755 persons. The paurashava consists of 3 mauzas containing 4 wards. The mauzas are Chandpur, Bishnudi (part) and Tarapur Chandi. The wards occupy area of 1.70, 1.62, 2.83 and 1.62 sq.km for wards 01, 02, 03 and 04 respectively. There are 20 educational institutes, 6 dak Bungalows, 4 cinema halls, 3 libraries, 2 public toilet, 6 playgrounds, 3 com.centers, 10 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. 44) Hajiganj Paurashava :

The Hajiganj paurashava was established in 1985. It is a new but the largest paurashava in area of Chandpur zila. It covers an area of 16.09 sq.km with a population of 325952 persons according to 1991 census. It consists of 8 mauzas comprising of 3 wards. The mauzas are Balakhal, Bhatra, Khatrabiluai, Mokimabad, Toragar, Kangais, Enayetpur and Dherara. The wards comprises areas of 7.08, 2.40 and 6.61 sq.km. for wards 01,02 and 03 respectively. There are 10 educational institute, 3 dak bungalows, 3 cinema halls, 2 libraries, 2 public toilet, 3 playgrounds, 3 com.center, 4 clinic/hospital in this paurashava. The Bandarban paurashava was established in 1984. It is the only paurashava of Bandarban zila and ranks third position in area of chittagong division. 47) Khagrachhari Paurashava :

The Khagrachhari paurashava was established in 1984. It is the only paurashava of Khagrachhari zila and the largest paurashava in area of chittagong division. It covers an area of 67.99 sq.km. (100% Mauzas area) with a population of 23373 persons according to 1991 census. The Paurashava consists of 3 mauzas namely Banglakati, parachhara and Golabari comprising 3 wards. 48) Sylhet Paurashava :

The Sylhet municipality was established in the year 1885. It was reconstituted as municipal committee in accordance with the municipal administration ordinance of 1960. The municipal committee was replaced by sylhet purashava in 1972, according to the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committee order 1972. Sylhet paurashava is the oldest but smallest paurashava in area among two paurashavas of Sylhet zila. It covers an area of 10.49 sq.km. with a population of 117396 persons according to 1991 census. The paurashava consists of two mauzas namely Sylhet and Bagbari (part) comprising of 5 wards. The wards occupy areas of 1.82, 1.51, 1.78, 3.18 and 2.20 sq.km for wards 01,02,03,04 and 05 respectively. There are 47

49) Habiganj Paurashava :

The Habiganj municipality was created in 1913 with an area of half sq. mile ( 0.83 sq.km). It was reconstituted as municipal committee in accordance with the municipal administration ordinance of 1960. The municipal committee was replaced by Habiganj paurashava in 1972, according to the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committee order, 1972. This is the only municipality of Habiganj zila. Now it covers an area of 7.11 sq.km. with a population of 35928 persons according to 1991 census. The paurashava consists of 10 mauzas comprising of 3 wards. The mauzas are Dakshin Dewkara, Sultan Mohammadpur, Athakura(P) Kamrapur, Uharkul & Machhulia Dakshin Anowarpur (P) Mandabad, Anandapur. 50) Srimangal Paurashava:

The Srimangal paurashava was established in 1935. It is a new but the biggest among two paurashavas of Maulavibazar zila in area. It has an area of 16.20 sq.km (100 %

Mauzas area) with a population of 16998 persons according to 1991 census. The paurashava consists of 4 mauzas comprising of 3 wards. The mauzas are srimangal, Bharaura, Rupaspur and Sungair. The wards cover areas of 4.07, 6.80 and 5.33 sq.km. for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. 53) Dinajpur Paurashava :

It is the largest and oldest paurashava of Dinajpur zila with a population of 127815 persons and an area of 20.60 sq.km according to 1991 census. The Dinajpur municipality was established in 1869. It was reconstituted as a Municipal Committee. It consists of 25 mauzas containing 4 wards. The mauzas are paschim Ramnagar, Lalbagkhamar, Kanchan, Raharpur, Prannathpur, Srukrishnapur, Khamankachai, Dinajpur, Balubari, Nimnagar, Uttar Faridpur, Mirzapur, Nimtaram, Bishannatpur, Khod Madhabpur, Hamjapur, Majhipara, Kasba, Khamarharbari, Nayanpur, Suihari and part of Damahar Rammagar, Sekhpura, Auliapur and Utar Casainpur. The areas of wards are 3.95, 4.42, 4.78 and 7.45 sq.km for wards 01,02,03,04, and 05 respectively. 58) Satkhira Paurashava:

The Satkhira municipality was estiblished in the year 1889. It was constituted as town committee in accordance with the provisions of Basic Democracies order of 1959. In accordance with the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees order of 1972 Satkhira town committee was replaced by a Shahar committee. It covers an area of 27.84 sq.km with a population of 73105 persons according to 1991 census. The paurashava comprises of 6 mauzas with 3 wards. The mauzas are Rasulpur, Palaspul, Ramdebpur, Satkhira, Sultanpur and Katia (part). The wards occupy areas of 6.44, 15.49 and 5.91 sq.km. for wards 01,02 and 03 respectively. The Kolaroa paurashava wasestablished in the year 1990. It is the smallest Paurashava of Satkhira zila with an area of 14.94 sq.km. having a population of persons according to 1991 census. It has 5 mauzas with 3 wards. The mauzas are Gopinathpur,

Jhikra, Tulsidanga, Mirzapur and Murarikati. The wards 01,02 and 03 occupy areas of 4.55, 3.90 and 6.50 sq.km respectively. There are 3 educational institutions, 1 dak bungalow, 2 cinema halls, 1 library, 5 playgrounds in this paurashava. The paurashava falls under the category of 'C' class. 60) Bogra Paurashava:

Bogra municipality was established in the year 1876. Under the municipal administration ordinance, 1960, the municipality was renamed as Bogra municipla committee. With the promulgation of the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees adendment order, 1972, the Bogra municipal committee is now called Bogra paurashava. Bogra is the largest paurashava of Bogra zila. It has an area of 18.85 sq.km with a population of persons according to 1991 census. The paurashava consists of 15 mauzas comprising 4 wards. The mauzas are Chak Brindaban, Sutrapur, Katnerpara, Shibbati, Malgram, Chakfarid, Latibpur, Chak Lokman and part of Malatinagar, Garamara, Thanthania, Natai, Nishindara, Fulbaria and Chilapara. The wards 01,02,03 and 04 occupy areas of 4.25, 3.74, 4.90 and 5.97 sq. km respectively. There are 3 educational institutions, 3 dak bungalows, 6 cinema halls, 2 libraries, 3 public toilets, 5 playgrounds in this paurashava. The paurashava falls under the category of 'A' class. 61) Sherpur Paurashava:

Sherpur municipality was established in the year 1876. Under the Basic democracies order, 1959, the Sherpur municipality was reconstituted as the Sherpur town committee. According to the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees order, 1972, the town committee of Sherpur was substituted by Sherpur shahar

committee. In 1973 Sherpur shahar committee was replaced as Sherpur Paurashava. Sherpur is the oldest but the smallest paurashava of Bogra zila. It covers an area of 6.74 sq.km with a population of 16158 persons according to 1991 census. It comprises of 6 mauzas with 3 wards. The mauzas are Serua (part), Dwarikapara, Sherpur, Sreerampur, Banmaricha and hazipur. The wards occupy areas of 1.5, 2.57 and 2.64 sq.km for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 1 dak bungalow, 2 cinema halls, 1 library, 3 playgrounds, 1 com.center in this paurashava. The paurashava falls under the category of 'B' class. 62) Santahar Paurashava:

(Adamdighi): The Santahar paurashava was established in the year 1988. Though it is a new paurashava but it is the sencond largest paurashava of Bogra zila. It has an area of 10.21 sq.km with a population of 26564 according to 1991 census. The Santahar paurashava consists of 9 mauzas containing 3 wards. The mauzaa are Bashipur, Parbatipur, Dogachi, Kalsha, Santahar, haludghar, Tiarpara, Malson and Tarapur. The wards occupy areas of 4.01, 3.65 and 3.14 sq. km. for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 1 dak bungalow, 3 cinema halls, 3 libraries, 2 playgrounds in this paurashava. The paurashava falls under the category of 'C' class. Joypurhat paurashava was established in the year 1975. It is the only paurashava of Joypurhat zila. It has an area of 18.53 sq.km with a population of 40681 persons according to 1991 census. 64) Sailkupa Paurashava:

The Sailkupa aurashava was established in the year 1992. It is a new paurashava but bigger among two old paurashavas of Jhenaidah zila viz kotchandpur and Maheshpur. it covers an area of 20.93 sq. km with a population of 25909 persons as per 1991 census. It comprises of 11 mauzas with 3 wards. The mauzas are Haridevpur, Shyampur, Sailkupa, Satgachhi,Anshia, Khalkula, Pathanpara, Fazelpur, Jaudia, Kabirpur and Habibpur. The wards occupy areas 6.74, 9.19 and 4.99 sq.km for wards o1, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 1 dak bunglow, 1 cinema hall, 1 library, 2 playgrounds, 4 education institutions in this paurashava. 65) Kaliganj Paurashava:

Kaliganj paurashava was established in the ear 1991. It is a new Paurashava of Jhenidah zila. It has an area of 16.49 sq.km with a population of 30624 (enumerated) and 33774 (adjusted) persons according to 1991 census. It consists of 11 mauzas comprising 3 wards. The mauzas are Sreerampur, Kaligonj, Bakulia, Khayertala, Paikpara (part), Fayla, Helai, Nischintapur, Arpara, Shibnagar and Babra. The wards posseses areas of 7.23, 4.00 and 5.26 sq.km for wards 01, 02, 03 respectively. 66) Maheshpur Paurashava:

The Maheshpur municipality was established in the year 1869. Under the municipal administration ordinance of 1960 the Maheshpur municipality was reconstituted as a town committee. According to the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972 the Maheshpur town committee was replaced by a shahar committee. As per provisions of the Bangladesh Local Government (Union Parishad and Paurashava) order, 1973 the shahar committee was reconstituted as a paurashava. Maheshpur paurashava is the oldest but the smallest paurashava of Jhenaidah zila. It covers an area of 11.47 sq.km having a population 11,646 persons as per 1991 census. It cosists of 4 mauzas namely Boalia (part), Hamidpur, Maheshpur and Jalilkpur comprising 3 wards. The wards occupy areas of 4.88, 1.62 and 4.97 sq.km for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 4 educational institutions, 1 dak bunglow, 2 cinema halls, 2 playgrounds in this paurashava. The Paurashava falls under the category of 'C' class. 67) Jessore Paurashava :

The Jessore municipality was established in 1864. It was reconstituted as a municipal committee under the provisions of the municipal administration ordinance of 1960. According to the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment order, 1972) the Jessore municipal committee was replaced by a paurashava. It is the oldest paurashava of Bangladesh and the only aurashava of Jessore zila. It covers an area of 25.72 (100% Mauzas Area) sq. km with a population of 139710 persons according to 1991 census. It comprises 15 mauzas containing 3 wards. The mauzas are Chanchara, Kharki, Jessore, Bejpara, Sankarpur, Murali (Part), Bagchara, Nilganj, Barandi, Ghop, Puratan, Kasba, Arabpur, Khayertala and Madghopa. The wards occupy areas of 8.49, 8.77 and 8.45 sq. km. for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 6 dak bungalows, 7 cinema halls, 2 libaries, 1 public toilet, 1 com.centers, 6 playgrounds in this paurashava. The Paurashava falls under the category of 'A' class. 68) Jhenaidah Paurashava :

Jhenaidah municipality was established in 1958. It was reconstituted as a town committee in 1960 under the municipal Administration ordinance of 1960. According to the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972 the Jhenaidah town committee was replaced by a paurashava out of five. paurashavas Jhenaidah is the largest Paurashava of Jhenaidah zila. It has an area of 39.63 sq.km with a population of 62896 persons according to 1991 census. The paurashava comprises of 20 mauzas containing 3 wards. The mauzas are Mathurapur, Gopinathpur, Lakshmikol, Mahishakura, Khajura, Muraridaha, Arappur, Khorda, Jhenaidah, Kanchanpur, Chhota Kamarkundu, Sikarpur, Hamduha, Kalikapur, Kanchannagar, Gobindapur, Pabahati, Bhutiarganti, Khudrapara, Darigobindapur and Jhenidah. 69) Kotchandpur Paurashava :

The Kotchandpur mnicipality was established in 1883. It was reconstituted as a town committee as per provision of the mnicipal aministration ordinance of 1960. According to the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972 the Kotchandpur town committee was renamed as Kotchandpur paurashava. The ward Possesses areas of 6.12, 8.49 and 3.24 for ward 01.02 and 03 respectively. There are 5 educational institutions, 2 dak bunglows, 1 cinema hall, 1 libary, 1 public toilet, 1 playground in this paurashava. The Paurashava falls under the category of 'A' class. 79) Meherpur Paurashava :

Meherpur Municipality was established in the year 1869. Under the Municipal Administration ordinance of 1960. It was converted into a Town committee. Meherpur Town committee was replaced by Meherpur Paurashava in accordance with the Bangladesh local councils and Municipal committees order of 1972. Meherpur Paurashava is the only Paurashava of Meherpur zila. It covers an area of 13.62 sq.km with a population of 26712 (enumerated) and 29460 (adjusted) persons according to 1991 census. The Paurashava consists of 4 mauzas namely Chandpur, Kalachanpur, Meherpur and Bamanpara (part) comprising 9 wards. The wards possess areas of 0.55, 0.53, 0.54, 0.28, 0.55, 3.26, 2.99, 3.29 and 1.63 sq.km respectively. There are 5 educational institution, 2 dak bungalows, 2 cinema halls, 2 libraries, 3 public toilet, 4 playgrounds in the paurasahva. The paurashava falls under the category of 'B' class. 80) Faridpur Paurashava :

The Faridpur minicipality was established in the year 1869. It was recoustituted as Faridpur municipal committee under the municipal administration ordinance, 1960. According to the Bangladesh Local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972, the Faridpur municipal committee was replaced by the Faridpur paurashava. It is the only paurashava of Faridpur zila. It covers an area of 20.23 sq.km with a population of 68938 persons as per 1991 census. The paurashava consists of 8 mauzas comprising of 3 wards. The mauzas are Goalchamat, Tepakhola, Kamalapur, Khabaspur, Habeligopalpur, Guhalakshmipur, Alipur and Faridpur. The wards occupy areas of 5.71, 7.64 and 6.88 sq.km for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 52 educational institution, 4 dak bungalows, 2 cinema halls, 2 public toilets, 1 playground, 2 com.centers, 5 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. 81) Madaripur Paurashava :

Madaripur municipality was established in the year 1875. It was reconstituted as Madaripur municipal committee in 1960. According to the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972, the Madaripur municipal committee was replaced by the Madaripur paurashava. It is the only paurashava of Madaripur zila covering an area of 34.81 sq.km with a population of 45992 persons as per 1991 census. The paurashava consists of 19 mauzas acomprising of 3 wards. The mauzas are panicharta, Harikumaria, Sakuni, Charmadan Roy, Traraguria, Madaripur, Theantali, Kukrail and part of Kumarkhali, Pearpur, Moheshpurchar, Saidarbali, Charraguria, Rupriya, Khagdi, Pakdi, Ghatmajhi, Mabarakdi and Kulpaddy. The wards occupy areas of 7.73, 14.48 and 12.61 sq.km. for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 30 educational institutions, 2 dak bungalows, 3 cinema halls, 27 club/associations, 7 public toilets, 8 playgrounds, 1 clinic/hospital in this paurashava. 82) Rajbari Paurashava :

The Rajbari municipality was established in 1923. It was reconstituted as Rajbari town committee under the municipal Administration ordinance of 1960. According to the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972, the Rajbari municipal committee was replaced by the Rajbari paurashava. Among the two paurashava of Rajbari zila, Rajbari paurashava is the oldest but smallest paurashava. It covere an area of 12.14 sq.km with a population of 41924 persons as per 1991 census. The Paurashava consists of 9 mauzas comprising of 3 wards. The mauzas are Bhabanipur, Chakkrishnapur, kazikanda, Sajankanda, Binodpur, Lakshmikol, Chhotanurpur, Sonakander and Dhunchi. The wards posseses areas of 3.21, 3.35 and 5.58 sq.km for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 21 educational institutions, 1 dak bungalow, 4 cinema halls, 5 club/associations, 2 public toilets, 3 playgrounds, 2 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. 83) Pangsha Paurashava :

The Pangsha paurashava was established in the year 1990. Though it is a new but the largest paurashava in terms of area of Rajbari zila. It possesses an area of 16.34 sq.km. (100% mauzas area) with a population of 23188 persons as per 1991 census. It consists of 17 mauzas containing 3 wards. The mauza Mrigidanga, Sabek Narayanpur, Char Durlabdia, Ohenkipara, Gudhibari, Kultia, Par Narayanpur, Char Maidipur, Raghunathpur, Baragachhi, Maguradangi, Narayanpur, Maisala, Bishnupur, Kurapara, Satyajitpur and Maukuri. The wards occupy areas 6.05, 4.72 and 5.57 sq.km for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 5 educational institutions, 1 dak bungalow, 2 cinema halls, 2 club/associations, 3 playgrounds, 2 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. The paurashava belongs to the category of 'C' class. 84) Sariatpur Paurashava :

The Sariatpur paurashava was established in 1990. It is a new and the only paurashava of Sariatpur zila. It Possesses an area of 25.50 sq.km with a population of 33083 persons as per 1991 census. It consists of 22 mauzas containing 3 wards. The mauza are Dasatra, Dakshinatang, Kagdi, Hugli, Dakshin Balichara, Palang,Charpataridhi, Swarnaghosh, Hajrasar, Tulasar, Dhanuka, Uttarmadhyapara, Dashhir, Madhyapara, Kasabhon, Nilkandi and part of Arigaon. The wards occupy areas of 10.05, 7.28 and 8.18 sq.km for wards 01,02 and 03 respectively. There are 1 dak bungalow, 2 cinema halls, 1 club/libruary, 2 playgrounds, 1 com.center 2 public toliet in this paurashava. The paurashava belongs to the category of 'C' class. 85) Gopalganj Paurashava:

The Gopalganj town committee was constituted in 1965. According to the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972 the Gopalganj municipal committee was replaced by the Gopalganj paurashava. It is the only paurashava of Gopalganj zila covering an area of 8.59 sq.km. with a population of 25007 persons. It consists of of 3 mauzas comprising of 3 wards. The mauzas are Khatra, Pachurea and Tegharia. The wards possesses areas of 1.51, 1.47 and 5.61 sq.km. for wards 01,02 and 03 respectively. There are 29 educational institutions, 3 dak bungalows, 1 cinema hall, 9 club/associations, 1 public toilet, 1 playground, 4 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. 86) Manikganj Paurashava:

The manikganj town committee was established in 1960. The town committee was reconstituted as Manikganj paurashava in 1972 according to the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committee (Amemdment) order, 1972. It is the only paurashva of Manikganj zila. The paurashava covers an area of 20.59 sq. miles with a population of 44846 persons according to 1991 census. The Manikganj Paurashava conssists of 32 mauzas comprising of 3 wards. The mauzas are pauli,Paschimbandutia, Dakshin Seota, Paschim Seota, Bergazaria, Tatikaliani, Manara, Bhanumati, Uttarseota, Banagram chak, Gangadharpatly, Nadibalabanta, parra, Noakhanda, Bhuljayra, Narengai, Kandarkandi, Jhokkuria, Khilinda, Nabagram, Barai, Malancha, Rainta, Dhakura para, Hijli, patal, Dasara, Boalia, Beutha, Barasaundi, Bagjuri and Baitara. The wards possess areas of 7.34, 6.02 and 7.24 sq.km for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 15 educational institutions, 2 dak bungalows, 2 cinema halls, 2 club/associations, 3 playgrounds, 4 clinic/hospitals. The paurashava belongs to the category of 'B' class. 87) Munshiganj Paurashava:

The Munshiganj twon committee was establised in 1965. It was reconstituted as Munshiganj paurashava in 1972.It is the only paurashava of Munshiganj zila covering an area of 14.17 sq.km with a population of 42298 persons according to 1991 census. The Munshiganj paurashava consists of 8 mauzas comprising of 3 wards. The mauzas are Bagmamudali, Ganakpara, Kotgaon, Munshiganj, Silmundi, Deobhog, Baikhar and Darichar. The wards possess areas of 4.80, 3.52 and 5.86 sq.km for wards 01,02 and 03 respectively. There are 26 educational institutions, 2 dak bungalows, 2 cinema halls, 1 club/association, 3 public toilets, 2 playgrounds, 1 com.center, 2 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. The Narsinghdi paurashava was established in 1972. It covers area of 14.76 sq.km with a population of 98342 persons according to 1991 census. The paurashava consists of 18 mauzas comprising of 3 wards. The mauzas are Bhelanagar, Taroa, Barabrahmanpara, Satirpara, Sreedharpur, Basai, Bhagdi, Maishasura, Brahmondi. The wards occupy areas of 4.40, 4.86 and 5.50 sq.km for wards 01,02 and 03 respectively. The Narayanganj municipality was constituted in the year 1876 to conrol an area of 41/2 sq. miles with a population of 27,876. The Narayanganj municipality was reconstituted as municipal committee in 1990 under the new system of Basic Democracies. After independence of Bangladesh the Narayanganj municipal committee was replaced by the Narayanganj paurashava according to the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972. The Narayanganj paurashava covers an area of 18.70 sq.km with a population of 276549 persons excluding Bandar portion (Now treated as Kadam Rasul) according to 1991 census. 90) Tangail Paurashava:

The Tangail municipality was established in 1887 with an area of 5 sq.miles. It was constituted as municipal committee under the municipal administration ordinance, 1960. After replaced independence of Bangladesh the Tangail municipal committee was replaced by the Tangail paurashava according to the Bangladesh Local councils and Municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972. Among two paurashavas of Tangail zila. Tangail paurashava is the oldest and largest Paurashava of the zila. It covers an area of 35.22 sq.km (100% Mauzas Area) with a population of 106004 persons as per 1991 census. It consists of 36 mauzas comprising of 5 wards. The mauzas are Inayetpur, Deola, Kodalia, Sabalia, Dhul, Akurtakur, Kagmara, Sakrail, Khaluria, Satia, Dighalia, Kalipur ,Sontosh, Aloa-Bhabani, Aloa-Tarini, Baratia, Tangail, Kandapara,Biswaser Betka, Saratia, Asakpur, Karatia, Aloa Pailkasta, Bachhrakandi, Berabhuchna, Beradoma, Berai, Bhalukkandi, Charpatuli, Kachuadanga, Kazipur, Patal and Bajitpur. The wards possess areas of 5.35, 4.70, 6.80, 5.94 and 12.44 sq.km for wards 01, 03, 04 and 05 respectively. There are 46 educational institutions, 1 cinema halls, 24 club/associations, 2 public toilets, 4 playgrounds, 1 com.center, 5 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. Gopalpur Paurashava was established in 1974. It is a new paurashava of Tangail zila. Gopalpur paurashava covers and areas of 23.12 sq.km with a population of 46190 persons according to 1991 census. The purashava consists of 18 mauzas comprising of 3 wards. The mauzas are Gangapara, Paika, Hazrabare, Bakhariabari, Madhupur, (Bhatta), Hatbairan, Bhuarpara, Porabari, Ramjibanpur, Gopailpur, Konabar, Nandanpur, Basubari, Samaspur, Suti, Dubail, Sundar and Chandbari. The wards occupy areas of 8.63, 8.50 and 5.99 sq.km for wards 01, 02, and 03 respectively. There are 10 educational institutions, 1 dak bungalow, 3 cinema halls, 9 club/associations, 1 playground, 1 clinic/hospital in this paurashava. 92) Dhaka City Corporation:

The Dhaka municipality was established in the year 1864. It was constituted as municipal comittee in 1960 in Pursuance of the Basic Democracies order introduced in 1959. The municipal Committee was reconstituted as paurashava in 1972 according to the Bangladesh local Councils and municipal Committee order, 1972. In 1983 it was replaced as Dhaka municipal corporation and finally in 1991 it got the status of a city corporation. Dhaka city corporation is the largest local self Government unit of Bangladesh. It covers a total area of 142.77 sq.km with a population of 3612850 persons according to 1991 census. Dhaka city corporation consists of 6 full and 7 part thanas. The full thanas are Dhanmondi, Kotwali, Motjheel, Ramna, Mohammadpur, Sutrapur and Tejgaon. The part thanas are Gulshan, Lalbagh, Mirpur, Sabujbagh, Cantonment and Demra. There are 154 mauzas of Dhaka city corporation comprising of 75 full and part wards. The cantonment thana consisted of 3 part wards with an area 18.88 sq.km and a population of 145719 persons of which part of ward 01 covers an area of 6.52 sq.km. with a population of 51068 persons part of Ward 10 covers an area of 5.92 sq.km.with a population of 53109 persons and part of ward 75 covers an area of 6.44 sq.km. with population of 415442 persons. The Mohammadpur thana comprises of an area of 11.67 sq.km. with a population of 316203 persons of which wards 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, and part of 69 cover areas of 0.50, 0.59, 0.72, 1.83, 6.75, 1.02 and 0.24 sq.km. with a population of 49010, 76106, 56267, 45443, 30479, 45201 and 13697 persons respectively. The Tejgaon thana comprises an area of 8.75 sq.km with a population of 220012 persons of which wards 68 part of 69 whole of 70 and 71 cover areas of 2.40, 2.79, 1.32 and 2.24 sq.km. with a population of 54044, 57594, 56072 and 52302 persons respectively. At the time of census, 1991 Aminbazar Union of Savar thana of Ward no 76 (Provisionaly) for census purpose was included in the Dhaka city Corporation with an area of 10.94 sq.km. having a population of 106568 persons. There are 149 educational institutions, 39 cinema halls, 951 club/associations, 258 public toilets, 37 playgrounds, 24 com.centers, 136 clinic/hospitals and 46 parks in this Corporation. Tongi paurashava was established in the year 1951. It is another paurashava under Gazipur zila. The Tongi paurashava is also a new one covering an area of 30.06 sq.km. with a Population of 168702 persons according to 1991 census. It consists of 29 mauzas containing 3 wards. The mauzas are Dattapara, Sailargati, Himardigi, Gopalpur, Markan, Sinlun, Pagar, Arijpur, Tongi, Machimpur, Chhota Kathadia, Paran Mondal Tek, Borodeora, Kakail Satais Darail, Gusulia, Bhadam, Jamaldia, Chak Bhadan Aghutia Bhakral, Andarul, Rajpur, Gutia, Bade Alasana, Satais, Khartail, Anchhpara, Salikchhara and Gazipura. The wards occupy areas of 14.78, 4.42 and 10.86 sq.km for ward 01.02 and 03 respectively. There are 46 educational institutions, 1 cinema hall, 24 club/associations, 2 public toilets, 4 playgrounds, 1 com.center, 5 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. The Gazipur paurashava was established in the year 1986. It is a new paurashava covering an area of 49.32 sq.km (100% mauzas area) having a population of 265419 persons according to 1991 census. The paurashava consists of 30 mauzas containing 3 wards. The mauzas are Bhanua, Bhuralia, Chandana, Chapulia, Chatar, Fakail, Joydevpur, Mariali, Pagulia, Takbharria, Bangalgachh, Baluckakuli, Bhora, Harnal, Kanaia, Lagalia, Naogaon, Nelepara, Adabaon, Bharural, Chaitannapur, Chhata Deora, Dakhil Khan, Dhirasram, Pakerdesi, Rahapara, Samantapur, Sarpara, Taratpara and Tekipara. The wards occupy areas 21.79, 15.52 and 12.01 sq.km for 01,02 and 03 respectively. There are 6 educational institutions, 3 dak bungalows, 5 club/associations, 2 public toilets, 5 playgrounds, 5 com.center in this paurashava. The Shibganj paurashava was established in the year 1992. It is the smallest of two paurashavas of Nawabganj zila. It has an area of 22.20 sq.km. (100% Mauzas Area) with a population of 29378 persons as per 1991 census. The Paurashava consists of 17 mauzas containing 3 wards. The mauzas are Shibganj, Mohadipur, jagannathpur, Chaturpur, Tatripur, Totbinod, Kashibati, Rashibati, Rasulpur, Selimabad, Gopalnagar, Rajnagar, Noruthampur, Debinagar, Chak Daulatpur, Selibatkhali, Parbatipur and Pithalitola. The wards occupy areas of 3.87, 6.14 and 12.20 sq.km. for 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 5 educational institutions, 1 dak bungalow, 3 cinema halls, 1 public toilet, 1 playground in this paurashava. The paurashava belongs to the category of 'C' class. The Savar paurashava was established in the year 1991. It is a new paurashava of Dhaka zila and belongs to Dhaka megacity. It covers an area of 24.07 sq.km. (Savar Union Area 11.38 sq.km.

included) with a population of 106586 persons according to 1991 census. The paurashava consists of 55 mauzas comprising of 3 wards. The mauzas are Savar, Jamising, Chhota, Amorpur, Kanchanpur, porabari, Badda, Bhatpara, Baribari, Jaleshwar, Nayabari, Dagarmura, Aichanoadda, Majidpur, Tatri, Rajarnoadda, Bindodbaid, Sutarnoadda, Arapara, Dakshin Baktarpur, Chhota Balimeher, Shaopara, Dakshin Dariapur, Borokura, Anandapur, Imandipur, BoroBalimeher, Rajashon, Genda, Dakshin Pamnagar, Prannatherbari, Shanarpur, Sarkerbari, Tiabari, Purba Bhabanipur, Rajibertaek, Uttarshyampur, Katlapur, Sherpur, Khalitakhali, Gerdda, Karnapara, Kajirchanda, Baroigram and Dakshin Ramchandrapur. 97) Mymensingh Paurashava :

The Mymensingh paurashava was established in the year 1859. It was named as Nasirabad municipality in 1905 and as Mymensingh municipal committee in 1960 after the promulgation of the basic democracies order. The Mymensingh municipal committee was replaced by a paurashava in 1972, according to the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972. Mymensingh paurashava is the oldest and largest paurashava in both area and population of Mymensingh zila. It covers an area of 21.73 sq.km. with a population of 188713. It consists of 17 Mauzas comprising of 7 wards. The mauzas are Mymensingh town, Balashpur, Bhatikasar, Krishnapur, Sehara, Gopalkandi, Kasar, Golganda, Maskanda, Dholadia, Keatkhali, Chak Chatrapur, Rakta, Akua(part), Chhatrapur (part), Boyra Bhaluka (part) and Khagdahar (part). The wards possess areas of 4.60, 2.72, 1.22, 1.75, 2.04, 2.04 and 7.37 sq.km. for wards 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, and 07 respectively. There are 75 educational institutions, 5 dak bungalows, 4 cinema halls, 2 clubs, 2 public toilets, 8 playgrounds, 2 com. centers, 17 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. 98) Gauripur Paurashava :

The Gauripur municipality was established in 1927, prior to which it was a union Board. The municipality was reconstituted as a town committee in 1960 under the provisions of the municipal administration ordinance of the same year. The Gauripur town committee was replaced by a shahar committee according to the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order 1972. As per provisions of the Bangladesh local government order 1973, the shahar committee was reconstituted as a paurashava Gauripur is a small paurashava under Mymensingh zila covering an area of 7.86 sq.km with a population of 18391 persons according to 1991 census. It consists of 6 mauzas containing 3 wards. The Mauzas are Bhaluka, Dapunia, Gouripur, Golakpur, Baluapara and Krishnaparasholdpur. The wards occupy areas of 2.67, 2.86, and 2.33 sq.km for wards 01,02,and 03 respectively. There are 56 educational institutions, 2 dak bungalows, 4 cinema halls, 2 clubs, 5 playgrounds, 3 com.centers, 1 clinic/hospitals. The paurashava belongs to the category of 'C' Class. 99) Muktagachha Paurashava:

The Muktagachha municipality was established in the year 1875. The Muktagacha municipality was reconstituted as a town committee as per provisions of the municipal administration ordinace of 1960. The Muktagachha town committee was replaced by a paurashava after the promulgation of the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees ( Amendment) order, 1972. Muktagacha paurashava is one of the oldest but in area smallest paurashava of Mymensingh zila. It covers an area of 7.28 sq.km. (Revised 11.90 sq.km. ) with a population of 20434 persons as per 1991 census . The paurashava consists of 15 mauzas comprising of 3 wards. The mauzas are katgara, paratangi, Mijati (part), Muktagachha, Lakshmikhola, Nandibari, Iswargaon and Payarkandi. The wards occupy areas of 1.89, 2.32 and 3.07 sq.km. for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 17 educational institutions, 1 dak bungalows, 4 cinema halls, 1 club, 2 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. The paurashava belongs to the cotegory of 'B' class. 100) Kishoreganj Paurashava :

The Kishoreganj municipality was established in 1869. The municipality was reconstituted as municipal committee in 1960 according to the provisions of the municipal administration ordinance of that year. The Kishoreganj Municipal committee was replaced by the Kishoreganj paurashava as per provisions of the Bangladesh local council and committee (Amendment) order, 1972. It is the largest paurashava in area under Kishoreganj zila covering an area of 19.57 sq.km. with a population of 60269 persons according to 1991 census. It consists of 3 mauzas namely solakia, Kishoreganj and Mulsatal comprising of 4 wards. The wards occupy areas of 4.99, 4.25, 5.31 and 5.02 sq.km. for wards 01, 02, 03 and 04 respectively. There are 10 educational institutions, 2 dak bungalows, 2 cinema halls, 5 clubs, 2 public toilet in this paurashava. The Kishoreganj Paurashava belongs to the catagoryh of 'A' class. 101) Bhairab Paurashava :

Bhairab municipality was established in 1958 before which it was a union Board. The municipality was reconstituted as a municipal committee in 1960 in terms of the municipal administration ordinance of 1960. The Bhairab municipal committee was replaced by a paurashava according to the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972. Although Bhairab Bazar has long been an important centre and a town it emerged as a municipal town late and it is the latest paurashava of Kishoreganj zila. In area it is the second largest Paurashava but in population it is the largest paurashava of Kishoreganj zila .It covers an area of 15.31 sq.km. with a population of 70093 persons according to 1991 census. It consists of 7 mauzas comprising of 5 wards. The mauzas are Lakshmipur, Jaganathpur, Kamalpur, Bhairabpur, Chandiber, Kalipur and Ramsankarpur. The Wards occupy areas 2.19, 4.90, 1.62, 3.21 and 3.38 sq.km. respectively. There are 34 educational institutions, 5 dak bungalows, 3 cenema halls, 3 clubs, 4 public toilets, 1 playground, 4 com.centers, 6 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. 102) Bajitpur Paurashava :

The Bajitpur municipality was established in 1869. It was converted into a town committee according to the municipal adminstration ordinance of 1960 under the basic democracies order, 1959. As per provisions of the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committee (Amendment) order, 1972 town committee was renamed as paurashava. Although it is one of the oldest paurashavas (as old as kishoreganj Paurashava) it is the smallest paurashava of Kinshoreganj zila. It covers an area of 9.84 sq.km with a population of 22955 persons as per 1991 census. The paurashava consits of 9 mauzas containing 3 wards. The mauzas are Bhagalpur, Nandina, Aliabad, Basantapur, Bajitpur, Niterkandi, Chandragaon and part of Darighaghatia, Kailag and Silimerkandi. The wards occupy areas of 2.41, 4.02 3.42 sq.km for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 27 educational institutions, 1 dak bungalows, 1 cinema hall, 20 club/libraries, 2 public toilets, 5 playgrounds, 1 com.center, 3 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. 103) Netrokona Municipality :

The Netrokona municipality was established in 1887. It was reconstituted as a town committee in 1960 as per provisions of the municipal administration ordinance of the same year. After liberation of Bangladesh Netrokona town committee was reconstituted as a paurashava as per provisions of the Bangaldesh local council and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972. Among two paurashavas of Netrokona zila. Netrokona paurashava is the biggest paurashava covering an area of 13.63 sq.km. with a population of 42628 persons according to 1991 census. It consists of 6 mauzas comprising of 3 wards. The mauzas are Pukhira, Satpai, Nagra, Jaynagar, Katli and Malani. The wards occupy areas of 7.05, 1.88 and 4.70 sq.km. for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 32 educational institutions, 4 dak bungalows, 2 cinema halls, 33 club/libraries, 8 public toilet, 5 playgrounds, 1 com.center, 4 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. 104) Mohanganj Paurashava :

The Mohanganj paurashava was established in the year 1975. It is a new and a small paurashava of Netrokona zila. It covers an area of 6.94 sq.km. with a population of 17277 persons. It consists of 14 mauzas comprising of 3 wards. The mauzas are Naohal, Tengapara, Hat Mohanganj, Daulatpur, Raulthpara, Barttargati, Pukhuria, Baraichira, Mirergati , Deothan, Mailora, Satur, Kajiati and Bandapabeha. The wards occupy areas of 1.51 3.71 and 1.72 sq;km. for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 18 educational institutions, 3 dak bungalows, 4 cinema halls, 4 club/libraries, 2 public toilets, 2 playgrounds, 3 com.centers, 3 clinic/hospitals in this Paurashava. 105) Jamalpur Paurashava :

The Jamalpur paurashava was established in 1869. It was reconstituted as a municipal committee under the provisions of the municipal administration ordinance of 1960. After the liberation of Bangladesh Jamalpur municipal committee was transformed into a paurashava according to the provisions of the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972. Jamalpur Paurashava is the largest Paurashava in area of Dhaka Division covering an area of 53.28 sq.km with a population of 103556 persons as per 1991 census. It consists of 46 mauzas comprising of 4 wards. The Mauzas are Kumpapur, Charpolisha, Pathalin, Naobhanga, Singjani, Kursakangarpara, Mukundabari Brajapur, Satpaikha, Chandpur, Bandakutaria, Chakkutaria, Chhankanda, Mathurabari, Fulbaria, Tatulia, Ramnagar, Rashidpur Chandratarap Putha, Chandra, Dakshinkutaria, Haripur Darifatepur, Kursha, Rampur Kharija, Jugirgopa, Khupibari Janglpara, Nasirpur, Hosenpur, Bishnurampur Rajarampur, Diabari, Dapunia, Palashghar, Baltia, Aliarpur, Chalkkalipur, Idilpur, Dakpara, Krishnacharanpur, Tirthachandra, Manpur, Singjanijadab, Shahapur. This Wards occupy areas charchandra, Bishnupur, Dearpan Chandra, Banda Tirtha of 12.50, 10.17, 14.90 and 15.71 sq.km. for wards 01, 02, 03 and 04 respectively. There are 10 educational institutions, 6 dak bungalows, 5 cinema halls, 6 club/libraries, 10 playgrounds, 5 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. 106) Sharishabari Paurashava :

The sharishabari paurashava was established in 1991. It is a new but in area quite large paurashava of Jamalpur zila. It covers an area of 23.60 sq.km. (100% Mauzas area) with a population of 48849 persons as per 1991 census. It consists of 20 mauzas comprising of 3 wards. The mauzas are Banlardiar, Bhurarbari, Dhanata, Diarkrishnai (1st), Diarkrishhai (2nd), Mulbari, Samarthabari, Satpoa, Charhatbari, Katiarbari, Simla Bhagabat (Simlachand), Simlaraghunath, Simla Madhabkonabari, Simlagopinath, Haluaghat (Simla Madhab) Simla Monohar (Maibari) Bilitaria, Bilsimla and part of Bangali. The wards occupy areas of 8.52, 9.92 and 5.16 sq.km. for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 5 educational institutions, 1 dak bungalow, 2 cinema halls, 2 club/libraries in this paurashava. 107) Sherpur Paurashava :

The Sherpur municipality was established in 1869. It was reconstituted as a municipal committee in 1960 under the provisions of the municipal administration ordinance of that year. According to the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972 the municiapal committee was reconstituted as sherpur paurashava. It is the only paurashava of sherpur zila. It covers an area of 23.39 sq.km. (Revised 27.05 sq.km.) with a population of 62828 persons according to 1991 census. It consists of 12 mauzas comprising 3 wards. The mauzas are Bamchandrapur, Mubarakpur, Sherpur, Srikrisnapur, Naohata, Tatalpur, Manohara, Damdama, Dhakalhati, Seihkhati, Narayanpur and Bairaparanpur. The wards occupy areas of 6.73, 7.44 and 9.23 sq.km. for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectvely. There are 30 educational institutions, 2 dak bunglows, 2 club/libraries, 2 public toilets, 6 cinema halls, 2 playgrounds and 1 com.centers in this paurashava.
