List of Paurashavas in Bangladesh
There are 107 paurashavas in Bangladesh according to 1991 census having a total population of 11725860 persons with a total area of 2225.53 sq. km. In 1981 there were 77 Municipalities. In 1991 30 Municipalities were added. These 107 Municipalities account for 56.18 percent of the total urban population. After 1991 Census 16 new municipalities were created in consequence of which the total number of municipalities in the country rose the 123. Detatils of which are given below :-

Fulbari Paurashava :
Fulbari
paurashava was established in the year 1983. It has a population of 23469
persons with an area of 16.03 sq.km. The paurashava comprises of 12 mauzas
containing 3 wards. The mauzas are krishnapur, sudjapur, chakchaka, Katabari,
Gauripara, Kanahar Tentulia, purba Chandrapur, Chak Shahbajpur, Barakona,
Mollapara and Sujan pukuhes. The wards occupy areas of 4.99, 6.86 and 4.17 sq.km
for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 2 dak bungalows, 2 cinema halls,
4 playgrounds, in this paurashava. The Paurashava falls under the category of

Thakurgaon Paurashava
:
Thakurgaon
municipality was established in the year 1953. It covers an area of 10.70 sk.km.
with a population of 34206 persons according to 1991 census. The paurashava
comprises of 6 mauzas containing 3 wards. The mauzas are salandar Gobinda Nagar,
Barunagran (P) Jaganhathpur, Akcha (p) Akcha (P) and Nischintapur. The wards
occupy areas of 2.43, 2.59 and 5.68 sq.km. for the wards 01,02 and 03
respectively. There are 1 dak bungalow, 4 cinema halls, 2 libraries, 2
playgrounds in this paurashava. The paurashava falls under the category of "B"

Panchagarh Paurashava
:
Panchagarh
paurashava was established in the year 1985. It covers an area of 11.36 sq.km.
with a population of 30500 persons. The paurashava comprises of 6 mauzas with 3
wards. The mauzas are Molani(P), omarpur(p), Dakkamara(P), Temonimari(P) puratan
Panchagarh and panchagarh. The wards occupy areas of 4.29, 5.41, and 1.65 sq.km
for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 1 educational institutuion, 1
dak bungalow, 1 cinema hall, 1 library, 2 playgrounds, 1 public toilet, 1
com.center, 1 clinic/hospital in this paurashava. The paurashava falls under the

4) Pirganj Paurashava:
Pirganj paurashava was established in the year 1989. It covers an area of 20.37 sq.km with a population of 17807 persons. The paurashva comprises of 7 mauzas with 3 wards. The mauzas are Miteabati, Ragunathpur, Bathpaligaon, Jagtha, Guagaon, Bhakura and Bhelatair. The wards occupy areas of 3.99, 695 and 9.44 sq.km for 01,02 and 03 respectively. There are 19 educational institutions, 3 dak bungalows, 3 cinema halls, 1 library, 3 playgrounds, 3 public toilets in this paurashava. The paurashava falls under the category of "C" class. 5) Barisal Paurashava :-
The Barisal municipality was established in the year 1876. The Barisal municipality was reconstituted under the basic democracies order. 1957 as a municipal comittee as per provisions of the municipal administration ordinance,1960. After the independence of Bangladesh. Barisal town comittee was constituted as the Barisal
Paurashava. It is the oldest and largest paurashava of Barisal zila. The paurashava covers an area of 16.37sq.km.with a population of 170232 persons. It comprises of 5 mauzas with 10 wards. The mauzas are kaunia, Amanatganj, Barisal, Bagura Alekanda and sagardi. The wards occupy areas of 2.13, 1.69, 0.40, 1.21, 2.83 4.23, 1.17, 0.40, 0.40 and 1.89 sq.km for wards 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07,08, 09 and 10 respectively. There are 101 educational institutions, 6 dak bungalows, 4 cinema halls, 50 libraries, 19 playgrounds, 3 public toilet, 2 com.center, 12 clinics/hospitals in this Paurashava. 6) Bakerganj Paurashava :
Bakerganj paurashava is another paurashava of Barisal zila established in the year 1990. It covers an area of 6.22 sq.km. with a population of 10159 persons. The paurashava comprises of 5 mauzas with 3 wards. The wards cover the areas of 1.19, 2.40, and 2.64 sq.km for wards 01,02 and 03 respectively. The mauzas are char Rangsres, Runsee(Part), Bakerganj, Rangsree and Bharpasha(part). There are 2 dak bungalows, 1 cinema halls, 1 library, 2 playgrounds, 1 com.center in this paurashava. The paurashava falls under the category of "C" Class. Main events of paurashava can be seen from the table 4.3.6

7) Banaripara Paurashava :
Banaripara paurashava is
the smallest paurashava of Barisal zila. It was established in the year 1990. It
has an area of 1.81 sq.km. with a Population of 7883 persons. The
paurashava consists of 2 mauzas with 3 wards. The mauzas are Banaripara and kundihar. The wards occupy areas of 0.59, 0.40 and 0.81 sq.km for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 6 educational institutions, 1 dak bungalow, 1 cinema hall, 1 library, 2 playgrounds, 1 clinic/hospital in this paurashava. The paurashava falls under the category of "C" class. 8) Jhalokati paurashava :
The Jhalokati municipality was established in the year 1875. With the promulation of the basic democracies order 1959, the municipality was reconstituted as a town committee. After independence of Bangladesh local councils and Municipal committees order was passed in 1972. According to this order Jhalokati town committee was constituted as the Jhalakati Paurashava. Jhalokati paurashava covers an area of 6.37 sq.km with a population of 35227 persons. It comprises of 6 mauzas with 3 wards. The mauzas are parkipaitnagar, Rifaitnagar, Jhalakati, Chankati, Natuncharjhalo kati and charjhalokati. The words occupy the areas of 3.70, 0.70 and 1.97 sq.km for wards 01,02 and 03 respectively. There are 26 educational institutions, 2 dak bungalows, 2 cinema halls, 3 libraries, 1 playgrounds, 1 public toilet, 1 clinic/hospital in this paurashava. 9) Nalchity Paurashava :
The Nalchity paurashava is the biggest paurashava of Jhalokati zila. Nalchity municipality was established in 1875 the same year as establishment of Jhalokati paurashava. With the introduction of basic democracies in the country in 1960, the Nalchity municipality was renamed as the Nalchity town committee. After independence of Bangladesh the Nalchity town committee was reconstituted as the Nalchity paurashava. The paurashava cover an area of 24.16 sq.km with 17 mauzas bearing 3 wards. The total population of the paurashava is 28048. The mauzas are Nanguli, Nalipur, Nalchity, Nandikati, Khajuria Parampassa, Sitalpara, Baichandi, Surjyapasa, Sardal, Gauripasa, Anuragdarichar Anuras, Farasina, Bhangadeulia, Sankarpasa and Kandapasa. The wards occupy areas of 8.74, 5.70 and 9.72 sq.km for wards 01,02 and 03 respectively. There are 28 educational institutions, 1 dak bungalow, 4 playgrounds, 1 public toilet, 2 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. The paurashava falls under the category of "C" class. 10) Pirojpur Paurashava :
The Pirojpur municipality was established in 1885. As per provisions of the municipal administration ordinance under the basic democracies order, 1959, the pirojpur municipality was renamed as pirojpur town committee. After independence of Bangladesh the town committee was constituted as the Pirojpur paurashava. Pirojpur Paurashava is the only paurashava of Pirojpur zila. It has an area of 15.12 sq.km. with 12 mauzas containing 3 Wards. The total population of the paurashava is 32720. The mauzas are Alamkati, Mukterkati, Khomaria, Jhatkati, Sikarpur, Kumarkhali, Chhota Khalisha Khali, Bara Khalishakhali, Pirojpur, Machimpur, Krishnanagar and part of Royerkati. The wards occupy areas of 6.39, 5.36 and 3.36 sq.km for 01,02 and 03 respectively. There are 70 educational institutions, 5 dak bungalows, 2 cinema halls, 22 club/libraries, 6 playgrounds, 8 public toilets, 6 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. 11) Bhola Paurashava :
The Bhola municipality was established in the year 1920. After the promulagation of the basic democracies order, 1959 the municipality was reconstituted as the Bhola town committee. By the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972, the Bhola town committee was reconstituted as the Bhola paurashava in 1972. It is the only paurashava of Bhola zila. Bhola paurashava covers an area of 22.67 sq.km with 6 mauzas containing 3 wards. The total population of paurashava is 34391. The mauzas are Bapta, Nabipara, chhota Algi, Jamirtala, Charnawabad and charjangai . The wards occupy areas of 11.42 , 4.90 and 6.34 sq.km for 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 12 educational institutions, 2 dak bunalows, 1 cinema halls, 3 libraries, 8 playgrounds, 4 public toilets, 3 clinic/hospitals in the paurashava. 12) Patuakhali Paurashava:
The Potuakhali municipality was established in the year 1892 with an area of 3.50 sq.miles (5.81 sq.km). The Patuakhali municipality was reconstituted under the basic democracies order, 1959 as a town committee as per provisions of the municipal administration ordinance, 1960. It was declared a municipal committee and was replaced by a paurashava by the Bangladesh local councils and Municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972. It is the only paurashava of Patuakhali zila. It covers an area of 12.66sq.km. with 3 mauzas containing 3 wards. The total Population is 44550. The
mauzas are patuakhali, Bholagachhi and Keshabpura. The wards occupy areas of 4.13, 2.03 and 6.49 sq.km. for wards 01,02 and 03 respectively. There are 28 educational institutions, 5 dak bungalows, 3 cinema halls, 5 libraries, 4 playgrounds, 8 public toilets, 4 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. 13) Barguna Paurashava :
The Barguna paurashava was established in the year 1973 with an area of 9 sq. miles (14.94sq.km). It has a total area of 15.57 sq.km. comprising of 3 mauzas with 3 wards. The mauzas are Bausbaria, Karoitala maitha and Barguna. The total population of the paurashava is 22213. The wards occupy areas of 7.88 5.85 and 1.84 sq.km for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 19 educational institutions, 3 dak bungalows, 2 cinema halls, 2 libraries, 4 playgrounds, 3 public toilets, 2 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. 14) Rangpur Paurashava:
The Rangpur municipality was established in the year 1869. The municipality was reconstituted as Rangpur municipal committee in accordance with the provisions of the municipal administration ordinace 1960. The Rangpur municipal committee was replaced by a paurashava in 1972 as per provisions of the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972, It is
the largest and oldest paurashava of Rangpur zila with an area of 42.57 sq.km. comprising of 21 mauzas with 6 wards. The total population of the paurashava is 191398. The mauzas are Kachhu, Kaimagulikukrul Debottar Taluk, Dhap (P)Kellabanda (P) Bhagi (P) Nilkatha, Guda simla(P) Kukrul (P), Manogopal(P), Nachnia, BirBhadra, kamalkachna, Radhaballabh, Amasa(P) Ragunathganj, Alamnagan(P), Satgara, Tajhat(P) Bara Rangpur(P) Mahiganj, Kalabari(P), Chota Rangpur(P), Parbatipur(P), Rampira(P), Deodova(P), Pirjabad(P), Binodpur(P) Darshana Pahari(P), Uttam(P), goneshpur(P), Khorda Rangpur Bahaskachna(P), Naohatikachna(P) Arazidam Khamen(P), The wards cover area 16.32, 6.27, 3.18, 1.62, 6.34 and 6.43 sq.km for wards 01, 02, 03, 04 and 05 respectively. There are 82 educational institutions, 2 dak bungalows, 6 cinema halls, 3 libraries, 5 playgrounds, 4 public toilets, 2 com.centers, 27 clinic/hospitals in this Paurashava. Haragacha paurashava was established in the year 1986. It is the smallest paurashava of Ranapur zila with an area of 16.13 sq.km comprising of 7 mauzas with 3 wards. The total population of the paurashava is 54821. The mauzas are Banupara, Charubhadra and part of Haragachh chatura, sarai, Dumerkuthi, Haragachh and Thakndas(P) . The area covers 2.87(P),620, and 7.06 sq.km for wards 01,02 and 03 respectively. There are 3 educational institions, 2 cinema halls, 1 library, 1 playgrounds, 1 com.center, 2 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. The paurashava falls under the category of "C" class. 16) Nilphamari Paurashava :
Nilphamari town committee was established in 1965. After independence of Bangladesh the Nilphamari town committee was replaced by a paurashava as per provisions of the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committee (Amendment) order, 1972. The total area of the paurashava is 19.53 sq.km. covering 6 mauzas in 3 wards. The total population of the paurashava is 31881. The mauzas are Haroa, Nilphamari Bazar(P), Nilphamari Town, Chittakhola, Arazi Kanialkhata and Kukha Para. The wards comprising areas of 1.62, 3.48 and 14.42 sq.km. for wards 01,02 and 03 respectively. There are 1 dak bungalow, 3 cinema halls, 2 libraries, 2 playgrounds, 2 public toilets, 1 com.center in this paurashava. The paurashava falls under the category of "C" class. 17) Saidpur Paurashava :
The saidpur minicipality was established in the year 1958. It was reconstituted as municipal committee in 1960. The Saidpur municipal committee was replaced by the saidpur paurashava as per provisions of the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972 and the Bangladesh local government(Union parishad and Paurashava) order, 1973. It is the largest and oldest paurashava of Nilphamari aila with an area of 34.42 sq.km. comprising of 8 mauzas with 5 wards.The total population of the paurashava is 96777 as per 1991 census. The mauzas are Khord Botlagari, Botlagari, Kundal, Kaya, Neyamatpur, Saiyedpur, Banglaipur and Barisal Para. The wards cover areas of 6.54, 4.62, 4.71, 8.18 and 10.36 sq.km for wards 01, 02, 03 04 and 05 respectively. There are 3 dak bungalows, 5 cinema halls, 1 libraries, 7 playgrounds, 3 public toilets, 1 com.center, 2 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. The paurashava falls under the category of "B" class. 18) Gaibandha Paurashava :
The Gaibandha municipality was established in 1923. It was reconstituted as a town committee in 1960. In accordance with the municipal administration ordinance of 1960. The Gaibandha town committee was reconstituted as a paurashava under the provisions of the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972 and Bangladesh local Government (union Parishad and Paurashava) order, 1973. Gaibandha paurashava has an area of 17.63 sq.km comprising of 9 mauzas with 3 wards having population of 40426. The mauzas are Narayon Para (P), Baniarjan, Gabindapur(P), Paschim Komarnai(P), Purba Komarnai, Dhanghora(P), Dakshin Dhanghara(P), Konakroy(P), Jolikalika Prasad. The wards occupy areas of 4.41, 4.65 and 8.57 sq.km for wards 01,02 and 03 respectively. There are 12 educational institutions, 1 dak bungalow, 3 cinema halls, 1 library, 1 com.center, 6 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. The paurashava falls under the category of "B" class. 19) Kurigram Paurashava :
The union council of Kurigram was reconstituted as a town committee in 1964 in accordance with the municipal administration ordinance of 1960. The Kurigram town committee was replaced by the Kurigram paurashava in 1972. The total area of the Paurashava is 16.17 sqkm (revised 20.57 sq.km.) consisting of 3 wards with 71 mauzas. The total Population of the Paurashava is 58191. The mauzas are krishnpur, Nazira, Bhelacopa, Kurigram, Hingul Ray, Kaleand polasbari. The wards occpy areas of and 3.22, 4.42 and 8.53 sq km for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 2 dak bungalows, 4 cinema halls, 3 libraries, 3 playgrounds, 2 com.centers in this paurashava. 20) Lalmonirhat Paurashava :
The Lalmonirhat town committee was constituted in 1965. After the independence of Bangladesh according to the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972 and the Bangladesh local government (union parishad and paurashava) order, 1973 the Lalmonirhat town committeewas reconstituted as a paurashava. The paurashava has an area of 17.62 sq.km consisting of 4 mauzas with 3 wards. The total Population of the paurashava according to 1991 census is 47090. The Rajshahi municipality in the name of Ranpur Boalia was made a municipality in 1876. It was functioning as the municipal committee in terms of the basic democracies order of 1959. The Hajiganj paurashava was established in 1985. It is a new but the largest paurashava in area of Chandpur zila. The mauzas are Balakhal, Bhatra, Khatrabiluai, Mokimabad, Toragar, Kangais, Enayetpur and Dherara. The wards comprises areas of 7.08, 2.40 and 6.61 sq.km. for wards 01,02 and 03 respectively. In 1983 it was replaced as Dhaka municipal corporation and finally in 1991 it got the status of a city corporation. Dhaka city corporation is the largest local self Government unit of Bangladesh. It covers a total area of 142.77 sq.km with a population of 3612850 persons according to 1991 census. Dhaka city corporation consists of 6 full and 7 part thanas. The full thanas are Dhanmondi, Kotwali, Motjheel, Ramna, Mohammadpur, Sutrapur and Tejgaon. The part thanas are Gulshan, Lalbagh, Mirpur, Sabujbagh, Cantonment and Demra. There are 154 mauzas of Dhaka city corporation comprising of 75 full and part wards. The cantonment thana consisted of 3 part wards with an area 18.88 sq.km and a population of 145719 persons of which part of ward 01 covers an area of 6.52 sq.km. with a population of 51068 persons part of Ward 10 covers an area of 5.92 sq.km.with a population of 53109 persons and part of ward 75 covers an area of 6.44 sq.km. with population of 415442 persons. The Demra thana covering an area of 3.48 sq.km. with a population of 268009 persons of which wards 47, 48,49, 50 and 51 cover area of 0.78, 0.60,0.55, 0.74 and 0.81 sq.km. a population 67670, 41843, 41502, 46070 and 70924 persons respectively. The Dhanmondi thana occupies an area of 9.74 sq.km with a population of 201531 persons of which wards 17, 18, 19 and 20 cover areas of 3.99, 1.77, 2.21 and 1.77 sq.km. with a population of 84525,20353, 53337 and 43314 persons respectively. The Gulshan thana comprises of an area of 16.88 sq.km. with a population of 211158 persons of which wards 58, 72, 73, 74 and part of 75 cover areas of 1.61, 4.80, 2.08, 5.71 and 2.68 sq.km. with a population of 30671, 46514, 44282, 68865 and 20826, 8035, 8437, 12638 and 3457 persons respectively. The Kotwali thana comprises of an area of 2.07 sq.km with a population of 210504 persons of which part of wards 29, 30 and whole of 31, 32, 34, 35 and 38 cover areas of sq.km. 0.15, 0.16, 0.29, 0.35, 0.32, 0.17, 0.25 and 0.38 sq.km. with a population of 7028, 12840, 30177, 55888, 35382, 26945, 22992 and 19252 persons respectively. The Lalbagh thana comprises of an area of 4.92 sq; km; with a population of 328551 persons of which wards 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 part of 29, 30 and whole of 64 cover areas of 0.39, 0.64, 0.27 0.39, 0.60, 0.66, 0.28, 0.27, 0.61, 0.58 and 0.23 sq.km. with a population of 59884, 42725, 43652, 32328, 33863, 20221, 18061, 43727, 17137, 12361 and 4592 persons respectively. The Mirpur thana comprises of an area of 29.38 sq.km. with a population of 604059 persons of which wards part of 01 and whole of 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09 and part of 10cover areas of 1.61, 1.34, 3.21, 2.40, 4.68, 4.26, 4.89, 1.99, 2.60 and 2.39 sq.km. with a population of 29400, 63174, 101150, 53564, 47930, 52038, 69434, 72422, 74491 and 40456 persons respectively. The Mohammadpur thana comprises of an area of 11.67 sq.km. with a population of 316203 persons of which wards 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, and part of 69 cover areas of 0.50, 0.59, 0.72, 1.83, 6.75, 1.02 and 0.24 sq.km. with a population of 49010, 76106, 56267, 45443, 30479, 45201 and 13697 persons respectively. The Motijheel thana comprises of an area of 4.69 sq.km. with a population 223676 persons of which wards part of 52 and whole of 62 and part of 63 cover areas of 0.88, 0.78, 1.00, 0.79, 0.90, 0.34 sq.km. with a population of 34563, 36857, 71276, 28758, 50810 and 1412 persons respectively. The Ramna thana comprises of an area of 7.85 sq.km. with a population of 195167 persons of which wards part of 63, 64 and whold of 65, 66 and 67 cover areas of 1.96, 1.79, 1.67, 1.23 and 1.20 sq.km. with a population of 24954, 34288, 35825, 65599 and 34501 persons respectively. The Sabujbagh thana comprises an area of 9.18 sq.km. with a population of 306657 persons of which wards part of 51, 52, 53 and whole of 55, 56, 57 part of 58 whole of 59 and part of 61 cover areas of 1.00, 0.53, 1.30, 1.14, 1.68, 1.34, 0.48, 0.68 and 1.03 sq.km. with a population of 14781, 3061, 62425, 55482, 70501, 48815, 19563, 26025 and 6004 persons respectively. The Sutrapur thana comprises an area of 4.36 sq.km. with a population of 307483 persons of which wards part of 36 and whole of 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, and 46 cover areas of 0.19, 0.46, 0.26, 0.38, 0.42, 0.45, 0.54, 0.32, 0.50, 0.44 and 0.42 sq.km. with a population of 2342, 39710, 23998, 32924, 36294, 27407, 21125, 29137, 40749, 21963 and 31837 persons respectively. The Tejgaon thana comprises an area of 8.75 sq.km with a population of 220012 persons of which wards 68 part of 69 whole of 70 and 71 cover areas of 2.40, 2.79, 1.32 and 2.24 sq.km. with a population of 54044, 57594, 56072 and 52302 persons respectively. At the time of census, 1991 Aminbazar Union of Savar thana of Ward no 76 (Provisionaly) for census purpose was included in the Dhaka city Corporation with an area of 10.94 sq.km. having a population of 106568 persons. There are 149 educational institutions, 39 cinema halls, 951 club/associations, 258 public toilets, 37 playgrounds, 24 com.centers, 136 clinic/hospitals and 46 parks in this Corporation. 97) Mymensingh Paurashava :
The Mymensingh paurashava was established in the year 1859. It was named as Nasirabad municipality in 1905 and as Mymensingh municipal committee in 1960 after the promulgation of the basic democracies order. The Mymensingh municipal committee was replaced by a paurashava in 1972, according to the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972. Mymensingh paurashava is the oldest and largest paurashava in both area and population of Mymensingh zila. It covers an area of 21.73 sq.km. with a population of 188713. It consists of 17 Mauzas comprising of 7 wards. The mauzas are Mymensingh town, Balashpur, Bhatikasar, Krishnapur, Sehara, Gopalkandi, Kasar, Golganda, Maskanda, Dholadia, Keatkhali, Chak Chatrapur, Rakta, Akua(part), Chhatrapur (part), Boyra Bhaluka (part) and Khagdahar (part). The wards possess areas of 4.60, 2.72, 1.22, 1.75, 2.04, 2.04 and 7.37 sq.km. for wards 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, and 07 respectively. The wards occupy areas of 1.89, 2.32 and 3.07 sq.km. for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. Bhairab municipality was established in 1958 before which it was a union Board. The municipality was reconstituted as a municipal committee in 1960 in terms of the municipal administration ordinance of 1960. The Bhairab municipal committee was replaced by a paurashava according to the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972. Although Bhairab Bazar has long been an important centre and a town it emerged as a municipal town late and it is the latest paurashava of Kishoreganj zila. In area it is the second largest Paurashava but in population it is the largest paurashava of Kishoreganj zila .It covers an area of 15.31 sq.km. with a population of 70093 persons according to 1991 census. It consists of 7 mauzas comprising of 5 wards. The mauzas are Lakshmipur, Jaganathpur, Kamalpur, Bhairabpur, Chandiber, Kalipur and Ramsankarpur. The Wards occupy areas 2.19, 4.90, 1.62, 3.21 and 3.38 sq.km. respectively. There are 34 educational institutions, 5 dak bungalows, 3 cenema halls, 3 clubs, 4 public toilets, 1 playground, 4 com.centers, 6 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. The mauzas are Bhagalpur, Nandina, Aliabad, Basantapur, Bajitpur, Niterkandi, Chandragaon and part of Darighaghatia, Kailag and Silimerkandi. The wards occupy areas of 2.41, 4.02 3.42 sq.km for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 27 educational institutions, 1 dak bungalows, 1 cinema hall, 20 club/libraries, 2 public toilets, 5 playgrounds, 1 com.center, 3 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. After liberation of Bangladesh Netrokona town committee was reconstituted as a paurashava as per provisions of the Bangaldesh local council and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972. Among two paurashavas of Netrokona zila. Netrokona paurashava is the biggest paurashava covering an area of 13.63 sq.km. with a population of 42628 persons according to 1991 census. It consists of 6 mauzas comprising of 3 wards. The mauzas are Pukhira, Satpai, Nagra, Jaynagar, Katli and Malani. The wards occupy areas of 7.05, 1.88 and 4.70 sq.km. for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 32 educational institutions, 4 dak bungalows, 2 cinema halls, 33 club/libraries, 8 public toilet, 5 playgrounds, 1 com.center, 4 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. 105) Jamalpur Paurashava :
The Jamalpur paurashava was established in 1869. It was reconstituted as a municipal committee under the provisions of the municipal administration ordinance of 1960. After the liberation of Bangladesh Jamalpur municipal committee was transformed into a paurashava according to the provisions of the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972. Jamalpur Paurashava is the largest Paurashava in area of Dhaka Division covering an area of 53.28 sq.km with a population of 103556 persons as per 1991 census. This Wards occupy areas charchandra, Bishnupur, Dearpan Chandra, Banda Tirtha of 12.50, 10.17, 14.90 and 15.71 sq.km. for wards 01, 02, 03 and 04 respectively. There are 10 educational institutions, 6 dak bungalows, 5 cinema halls, 6 club/libraries, 10 playgrounds, 5 clinic/hospitals in this paurashava. 106) Sharishabari Paurashava :
The sharishabari paurashava was established in 1991. It is a new but in area quite large paurashava of Jamalpur zila. It covers an area of 23.60 sq.km. (100% Mauzas area) with a population of 48849 persons as per 1991 census. It consists of 20 mauzas comprising of 3 wards. The mauzas are Banlardiar, Bhurarbari, Dhanata, Diarkrishnai (1st), Diarkrishhai (2nd), Mulbari, Samarthabari, Satpoa, Charhatbari, Katiarbari, Simla Bhagabat (Simlachand), Simlaraghunath, Simla Madhabkonabari, Simlagopinath, Haluaghat (Simla Madhab) Simla Monohar (Maibari) Bilitaria, Bilsimla and part of Bangali. The wards occupy areas of 8.52, 9.92 and 5.16 sq.km. for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectively. There are 5 educational institutions, 1 dak bungalow, 2 cinema halls, 2 club/libraries in this paurashava. The Sharishabari paurashava belongs to he category of 'C' class. Special events of paurashavas can be seen from the table 4.3.106

107) Sherpur Paurashava :
The Sherpur municipality was established in 1869. It was reconstituted as a municipal committee in 1960 under the provisions of the municipal administration ordinance of that year. According to the Bangladesh local councils and municipal committees (Amendment) order, 1972 the municiapal committee was reconstituted as sherpur paurashava. It is the only paurashava of sherpur zila. It covers an area of 23.39 sq.km. (Revised 27.05 sq.km.) with a population of 62828 persons according to 1991 census. It consists of 12 mauzas comprising 3 wards. The mauzas are Bamchandrapur, Mubarakpur, Sherpur, Srikrisnapur, Naohata, Tatalpur, Manohara, Damdama, Dhakalhati, Seihkhati, Narayanpur and Bairaparanpur. The wards occupy areas of 6.73, 7.44 and 9.23 sq.km. for wards 01, 02 and 03 respectvely. There are 30 educational institutions, 2 dak bunglows, 2 club/libraries, 2 public toilets, 6 cinema halls, 2 playgrounds and 1 com.centers in this paurashava.
