Bangladesh and UNDP : Empowerment of Women

Incorporating women’s concerns into policy is a new idea that is gaining momentum among decision makers in Bangladesh as a result of technical assistance to the Government as part of its strategy which is aimed at mainstreaming gender.

Bangladesh and UNFPA : Promote Gender Equality

UNFPA provides support to  the Government for implementing the recommendations of the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination  against Women (CEDAW). Under the current Fifth Country Programme (1998-2002) UNFPA support will be to the tune of US$ 35 million out of which 70% has been allocated to Reproductive Health including Family Planning followed by 20% to Advocacy on Reproductive Health and Gender issues, 9% to Population Development Strategy and 1% to Programme Coordination and Assistance.

Bangladesh and UNICEF : Promote Gender Equality

The 1996-2000 Bangladesh Country Programme of Cooperation seeks to bring all activities in line with the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Declaration and Plan of Action of the 1990 World Summit for Children, and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women. A budget of US$250 million was approved; US$80 million is sourced from General Resources and US$170 million needs to be raised through Supplementary Funds. UNICEF collaborates with a wide range of partners including line Ministries, local governments, communities, and 350 NGOs.
