Visas
Participants in COP 6 who may require a visa for entry into the
Netherlands are encouraged to contact the nearest Dutch embassy or
consulates as soon as possible. The embassies and consulates will be able
to provide detailed information about visa requirements. Participants are
encouraged to submit their applications for visas in a timely manner to
allow sufficient time for processing. The Government of the Netherlands
has agreed with the secretariat that visas or entry permits shall be
granted free of charge and as speedily as possible.

Security
During the entire duration of the Conference of the Parties, the
conference centre is not be open to the public. Only representatives from
Parties, Observer States, observer organisations or accredited press/media
will be permitted to enter the premises. Strict security measures will be
enforced throughout the conference. Participants must enter the
Netherlands Conference Centre through the main entrance and wear their
badges visibly at all times and in all areas of the conference premises.
Badges for participants and delegates are issued only on the basis of a
letter of nomination from Parties, Observer States or accredited observer
organisations. Press badges are issued only to press/media representatives
accredited to cover the conference. Lost badges must be reported to the
Registration Desk immediately.
Registration
Registration of Parties, Observer States and observer organisations: The
Registration Desk will be located at the entrance of the Staten Hall of
the Netherlands Conference Centre. It will be open from Friday, 10
November to Sunday 12, November, between 1.00 p.m. and 6.00 p.m. and from
Monday, 13 November to Friday, 24 November from 8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.
Diplomatic missions in The Hague may collect their delegations’ badges
upon presentation of a corresponding letter of authorisation and
identification (Diplomatic card).
Accreditation and
registration of press/media:
Accreditation and registration of press/media takes place at Registration
Desk by the Staten Hall entrance, Netherlands Conference Centre, between
8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. on Monday, 13 November to Friday, 24 November.
Badges for press/media representatives who have already submitted a press
accreditation form will be available in advance on Friday, 10 November
between 12.00 p.m. and 6.00 p.m.
Badges may be collected upon presentation of two forms of photo ID
(passport, official national press pass, driver's license, work ID, etc.)
or of a photo press pass from the United Nations in New York, Geneva,
Vienna, or Nairobi.
Participants are reminded
that double registration is not permitted.
Conference
Services
Climate Change Kiosk:
Located in the main foyer, the Climate Change Kiosk's primary goal is to
provide information about climate change and the secretariat. The material
available at the Kiosk includes the texts of the Convention and the Kyoto
Protocol in the six official languages of the United Nations, as well as
other public information materials. Furthermore, it includes display
panels, computers with Internet connections and a small area where
participants can drop off a video, document or CD-ROM, which they would
like to exhibit.
Cloak room:
You may use the cloakroom located on the right side in the main foyer at
no cost.
Conference
Information Desk:
The Information Desk located in the main foyer of the Netherlands
Conference Centre provides general information about the meetings and the
venue. It also distributes a folder containing a map of the building and
the booklet "Information for Participants", which lists
available services with their exact location within the Netherlands
Conference Centre, as well as their opening hours and contact numbers.
Cyber Café:
Participants can access their electronic mail accounts using the computer
terminals in the Cyber Cafés located in the Vermeer lounge and the Karel
Appel foyer.
Documents
Distribution Counter:
The Documents Distribution Counter, located in the passage between the
conference centre's main foyer and Staten Hall, has copies of all official
documents, including the Daily Programme of scheduled meetings and the
list of participants. In addition, UNFCCC documents are available on the Documents
Section and by e-mail upon request from the secretariat.
Funding for
Delegates:
Delegates from Parties eligible for funding may collect their daily
subsistence allowance (DSA) from the Administration office located on the
first floor between the Frans Hals Hall and the Maris Hall.
Delegates are kindly requested to present their passports or other
official identification (photo ID), tickets and boarding pass stubs to the
travel officer when claiming DSA.
IT service centre:
Participants can have colour copies, prints, photographs scanned, overhead
sheets produced etc. at the IT service centre located in Ruysdael room 2.
COP6 staff will operate these services.
Meeting Room
Reservation Desk:
Participants wishing to reserve meeting rooms should contact the meeting
room reservation desk, located on the right side of the Information Desk.
Services for NGOs:
Offices for environmental groups, business and industry organisations, as
well as for local NGOs are located in the Paulus Potter hall on the
underground level of the Netherlands Conference Centre. The offices are
equipped with PC workstations and printers.
Participants'
Computer Centre:
Participants wishing to access the world –wide web may do so at the
computer centre located in the Ruysdael-foyer on the second floor of the
main building. The centre is equipped with 150 computers as well as
network printers. Each PC has an Internet connection and is installed with
commonly used software (MS-Office, WordPerfect, and Internet browsers).
Due to the large number of people who may want to use the facilities,
participants are kindly requested to be considerate and limit the time
spent using the computers.
Participants'
Telecom Centre:
A Telecom centre with 48 communication-workplaces is located in Ruysdael
rooms 3 and 4 on the second floor of the main building. The 24 workplaces
in Ruysdael room 3 all have an analog-RJ45 modem-connection and a 220V
power-outlet. In Ruysdael room 4, there are 18 workplaces with analogue
modem connection and 6 workplaces with digital modem-connection. All
workplaces have 220V power outlets. There are 14 telephones and 4 fax
machines with international access distributed between the two rooms. In
each of the two rooms, one medium-size copier is located. Telephones, fax
machines and copiers can be used free of charge. However, participants are
kindly requested to limit their use of these facilities.
Pigeon holes:
Delegates who wish to leave messages for other participants are requested
to use the pigeon holes located at the Document Distribution Counter
located in the passages between the conference centre's main foyer and
Staten Hall.
Press/Media
Services
International Media Centre:
The International Media Centre (IMC) in Staten Hall at the conference
centre offers various services to accredited members of the press. The IMC
opens on Sunday, 12 November, at 10.00 a.m. with limited services. As of
Monday, 13 November, 6.00 a.m., the IMC will be fully operational. On 24
November, writing press facilities will close two hours and TV/radio
facilities will close four hours after the close of the conference. For

General
services
Bank:
The ING Bank is located at the entrance of the main foyer provides banking
services from 13 to 24 November.
Shiatsu massage:
Massage will be available for participants at a fee, next to the
Information desk. Each session lasts 20 minutes and concentrates on
pressure points on the back, neck and shoulders. No oil is used and is
administered while the person is fully clothed and seated on a chair.
Reflexology:
Professional reflexologists will be available during the entire
conference. Half hour sessions will be offered daily, from 10.00 a.m. till
9.00 p.m. at a fee. Please contact the Information Desk for further
information.
Hotel/flight
information desk:
Participants seeking hotel and flight information are requested to contact
the Hotel/flight information desk located at the entrance of the main
foyer.
Restaurants/Catering:
In the Jan Steen Hall on the underground level of the Netherlands
Conference Centre, there is a restaurant where you can enjoy breakfast,
lunch and dinner. There are also refreshment counters spread out in the
Netherlands Conference Centre where you can buy snacks, sandwiches and
salads. Opposite the Document Distribution counter you will find a small
24-hour restaurant.
Smoking area:
The Netherlands Congress Centre is a non-smoking area, except in
designated areas.
Transport
desk
Public Transport:
A special pass, valid for the whole duration of the conference, is
available for participants. This pass will allow free use of local
transportation. The pass can be obtained at the Transportation Desk at the
entrance of the main foyer in the Netherlands Conference Centre. A map of
The Hague, with information about all the transportation routes and tram-
and bus lines will be provided. Shuttle services to hotels not served by
the public transportation will be available in the morning and evening.
Bicycles
Two hundred bicycles will be available for use by participants during the
conference. Reservations should be made at the transportation desk.
Taxis
Taxis can be ordered at the Transportation Desk at the entrance of the
main foyer in the Netherlands Conference Centre.
The Hague
Information Desk:
This service is located next to the Conference Information Desk and
provides general information about the city of The Hague, cultural events
and the possibility of booking the Daily tours.

Special Film Screenings
Opening film:
The straw that breaks
the camel's back?
The Government of the
Netherlands has produced this IMAX film to highlight the critical issues
under discussion and their potential impacts on societies across the
world, before Parties being their work at COP 6.
IMAX films use the
world’s largest film format that is 10 times the size of conventional
films. It is projected on a giant screen, which extends beyond peripheral
vision and gives the viewer the sense of being right in the action. It is
indeed a memorable experience!
This IMAX film will be
premiered at the opening of COP 6 on Monday 13 November, by invitation
only. The film will be shown two times per day, 9.30 a.m. and 10.00 a.m,
from Tuesday, 14 November, including the weekend, at the Omniversum
movie theatre, located within walking distance of the conference centre.
Admission is free on
presentation of your COP 6 badge. Please note that the theatre only seats
300 people and therefore admission will be on a first come, first served
basis.
Accompanying film
programme
Films on environmental issues will be shown daily between 1 p.m. and 10
p.m. in the Karel Appel Hall on the underground level of the conference
centre. The films, which are of a documentary, non-commercial nature, are
open to all participants, including representatives of the press/media.

the Karel Appel Hall. Also, the programme is added to the daily
programme section.
Other
Events
The ClimateTech2000
Pavilion will be open from the 16 - 22 November in a building adjacent
to the conference centre. The exhibition will showcase cutting-edge
climate-friendly technologies (including renewable energy sources, energy
efficiency, and other mitigation technologies), related services and
environmental policies and programmes.
