Oil resources are extremely small, being confined to a single oil field (Haripur) in the Sylhet area of north-east Bangladesh and a number of gas fields producing small amounts of condensate. Total oil output in 1996 was only just over 100000 tonnes, an annual level that has remained virtually the same for the past 10 years.
