| Sustainable
Development Networking Programme (SDNP) Bangladesh pleased
to announce that a mirror of the Internet F-root nameserver
has been deployed in Bangladesh on 9th December 2005. The
Root Server- F is one of the 13 Root Servers around the world
to facilitate operation of the Internet.
This F-Root Server will enhance the Internet service quality
of all Bangladeshi Internet users, and especially for the
subscribers of the BDIX connected ISPs. The installation of
this root server in Bangladesh has been made possible by SDNP
Bangladesh and Internet Service Provider Association of Bangladesh
(ISPAB) with financial and logistical support from Asia Pacific
Network Information Centre (APNIC) and Internet Systems Consortium
(ISC).
SDNP arranged an inaugural ceremony for the installation of
the Root Server –F on 9th December 2005 at the conference
room of BIDS.
Prof. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Vice Chancellor, BRAC University
was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Mr. Jafar Ahmed Chowdhury,
the Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forests and National
Programme Director of SEMP was also present as the Special
Guest. Inaugural Ceremony was chaired by Dr. Quazi Shahabuddin,
Director General, BIDS.
Mr. Larry Maramis, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP
Bangladesh and Mr. Akhteruzzaman Monju, President of Internet
Service Provider Association of Bangladesh was present in
the session as other special guests. Mr. Peter Losher from
ISC attended the session as the Resource person who was also
responsible for the technical setup of the Root Server.
The Project Coordinator of SDNP Dr. Hakikur Rahman deliver
the welcome address and conducted the Inaugural ceremony.
Internet F-root nameserver was formally launched by Prof.
Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Vice Chancellor, BRAC.
Later on a technical session on F-root
server was jointly conducted by Mr. Peter Losher and Dr.Hakikur
Rahman on December 10th, 2005 at the same venue. Most of the
System Admins of large ISPs were among the participants who
attended the technical session.
It is expected that through this multilaterial partnership
of SDNP, ISPAB, MoEF, UNDP, APNIC and ISC future of Internet
in Bangladesh will flourished furthur. |
