Sustainable Development Networking Programme (SDNP) of Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) held a ceremony for the launching of a Resource Disk/CD on 7th June, 2005 on the occasion of the World Environment Day at 3.00 PM at Jatiya Press Club Conference Room.

Mr. Jafrul Islam Chowdhury, MP and Hon'ble State Minister, Ministry of Environment and Forests was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Mr. Jafar Ahmed Chowdhury, the Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forests and National Programme Director of SEMP was present as the Special Guest. The ceremony was chaired by Dr. Quazi Shahabuddin Ahmed, Director General of BIDS.

The Chief Guest Hon'ble State Minister Mr. Jafrul Islam Chowdhury, MP informed the audience on various steps taken by the Government on environmental management, including reduction of air pollution, waste management and ban of polyphone usage. He also emphasized on this year's theme of the World Environment Day, on Green cities - Plan for the Planet!, and praised SDNP on this occasion for releasing the resource disk on the theme of this year. Among other speakers, Mr. Jafar Ahmed Chowdhury, the Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forests spoke on various issues of sustainable environment management, and Dr. Quazi Shahabuddin Ahmed, Director General of BIDS spoke on the role of urban planning in the development process and the problems of its management.

Dr. M. Asaduzzaman, the Project Director of SDNP introduced the CD to the audience and a demonstration of the resource disk was given by Dr. M. Hakikur Rahman, Project Coordinator of SDNP.
