India has already diverting water from Teesta and Mahananda. Their next plan is to divert water from the tributaries of Brahmaputra, Manos, Sankos, Torsa, to the Ganges.

Lean season flow of Lower Meghna will reduce substantially and salinity front will be extended towards north.

Immediate implication will be that northern districts e.g., Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Denajpur, Lalmonirhat, Niphamari, Kurigram will be deprived of the perennial river flow and will go dry. Brhamaputra will be deprived of major lean season flow.
