How to Make a Difference...
As
the 22nd of March approaches every year, we are reminded of our
responsibility, be it individual or collective, towards conserving life's
most vital of resources : Water.
To
encourage and foster world awareness-raising activities, the Global Water
Partnership (GWP) prepared a comprehensive manual offering NGOs, schools,
and other civil society partner organizations an excellent toolbox of
ideas and suggestions.
This
manual has been prepared by UNEP for on-line presentation in the following
pages, with the kind permission of GWP.
In
preparation for World Water Day, we are pleased to share with you these
many suggested activities and actions that can be carried out by each
individual or the whole community.
By
turning words into action, you can make a difference by increasing
awareness of water problems and solutions.

The Executive Summary of the UN World Water Development Report is
available online...
Why Water is the Big
Issue
at any given moment almost half the developing world's people are
sick from unsafe water and sanitation.
lack of water supply and sanitation robs millions of dignity,
energy, and time.
frequent disease is the main cause of poor growth and early death.
for a third of the world the real environmental crisis is squalor,
smells and disease on the doorstep.
half of the developing worlds hospital beds are occupied by
victims of unsafe water and poor sanitation.
