    BGP routing and BGP multi homing workshop
   

A six days long workshop on “BGP routing and BGP multi-homing" was organized by Bangladesh Internet Exchange (BDIX), ISP Association Bangladesh (ISPAB) in association with ICT promotion Council and Ministry of Commerce at BDIX, (Pahtha Path office Dhaka). In the workshop various issues on BGP routing and practical demonstration on BGP multi-homing was widely discussed. In the workshop the tanning session and some important papers were presented by Mr. Gourob Raj Upadaya from PCH (Packet Clearing House) and Internet Economic Analyst Mr. Amante lvaran from APNIC.

     
27 September, 2006   BDIX General Meeting
    Members of BDIX and other interested IT organizations had met on September 27th, 2006 in a one day General Meeting at BIDS conference room. BDIX Overall achievements, scope of works and technical briefings along with relevant suggestions were elaborately discussed in the meeting. The meeting was ended with a mini discussion "BGP routing details" for ISP peering. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Hakikur Rahman, Project Coordinator, SDNP. The general secretary of ISPAB and CEO, BOL, Mr. Ershad Chowdhury, and Mr Sumon Ahmed Sabir, Managing Director, BDCom Online were the main speakers.

9 December, 2005   Internet Root Nameserver Deployment for Bangladesh 
  A mirror of the Internet F-root nameserver has been deployed in Bangladesh. The Root Server- F is one of the 13 Root Servers around the world to facilitate operation of the Internet.
17 November, 2005   SDNP regional administrators met in Dhaka Head Office.
    All four regional administrators from Cox's Bazar, Dinajpur. Mymenshingh, & Sathkhira regional offices met with the technical and web team of Dhaka Head office on November 17th, 2005 to attend a one day interactive workshop.

The main objective of this meeting was to share various experiences gathered by all team members to up hold activities of SDNP. Overall achievements, scope of works and technical briefings along with relevant suggestions were elaborately discussed in the meeting. System administrators presented their slides that include current status, future plane, associated problems and their remedy, financial projection etc. Suggestions for sustainability, developments and recommendations were also focused in the meeting.

In the second session the meeting was ended with a mini handsome covering "wireless network communication details" for ICT capacity build up.
     
17,18,19 October, 2005   Regional workshop in Dinajpur towards the capacity building for the deprived urban community.
  SDNP has recently organized a three days workshop at its regional station in Dinajpur to raise the ICT expertise at the grass root level stakeholders. Thus various IT enabled services like Tele-medicine, On-line library, and information access are also available through this regional node. more...
     
Aug.16, 2005   Launching Ceremony of SDNP Regional Node at Chittagong University
  In order to outreach SDN’s activities in the regional stations, a regional node has been established at Chittagong. SDNP has selected the Chittagong University CU, as the possible host institute for setting up the regional node. With the launching of the regional node, the staff and students here will enjoy faster internet access through V-SAT.

  On the occasion of launching ceremony of SDNP WAP Portal a Press Conference was held on August 09, 2005 at the National Press Club conference room.   Maheshkhali, an island isolated from the mainland Cox’s Bazar, located at 10km west is now becoming the part of the Internet World. With the inauguration of the first ever Cyber Centre at the multipurpose village information center has elevated Maheshkhali to this premium level.
     
Dec. 26 to Jan. 13, 2005   SDNP participates in the process of integration with military communication resources
    According to the opted decision taken at the conference held at the HQ Army Signal Brigade on 01 December 2004, for integration of all the communication resources of sister services, Para Military/Auxiliary Forces and Civil Organization, SDNP Bangladesh is successfully participating in the ongoing Winter Collective Training (WCT) through which the testing process is executed. During this training, all the participating agencies will share their resources for the integration of equipments from their end with the Military WLL communication resources.
     
Dec. 16 to 23, 2004   SDNP sponsors & provides Internet Connectivity at a Rural Festival
  Through Satkhira regional node, SDNP- Bangladesh was successfully provided internet connectivity at the “Bijoy Mela” held at the Satkhira from December 16 to 23. With the establishment of the connectivity visitors and spectators enjoyed and felt the technological innovation at their finger tip. This initiative was highly applauded by the festive crowds, which was clearly marked by their remarkable and long awaiting presence at the booth. In this issue SDNP, Bangladesh had also launched a website on the festival highlights.
     
30th Nov. 2004.   SDNP Concludes the IX training
  At the completion of the five days long training on the Internet Exchange, a simple certificate award ceremony was held. System Administrators from the 10 connected ISPs, trained during these days were given the certificates
     
August 18, July 19 and June 24, 2004   Opinion Sharing Meeting in Regional Nodes
    To introduce SDNP at grass-root level and at the same time learn from the communities about their opinions and experiences, three opinion sharing meeting were held in the three regional nodes of SDNBD.

     
26th Nov. 2004.   Training on internet Exchange at BDIX 6th Nov. 2004
  A five days long hand-on training session on the different technical aspects of the Internet Exchange in Bangladesh has started at the BDIX premises of the SDNP Bangladesh at Panthapath from November 26, 2004. Mr. Philip Smith, CISCO Consultant and Mr. Gaurab Raj Upadhaya, PCH Consultant are providing the training to the BDIX personnel, including the system administrators of the connected ISPs, and a few ISPs by the invitation of ISPAB.

  In the press briefing, current status of the Internet Exchange (www.bdix.net), its advantages and benefits to the Internet community were discussed through a power point presentation.
     
26th Oct. 2004   SDNP organized a Three Day Workshop On “Capacity Building by Using Internet” at Cox’s Bazar
  SDNP organized a three day long workshop at Cox’s Bazar, at its Chittagong Regional Node. It was a one of the series of workshop, which has been recently organized by SDNP at the regional stations among its various other activities. The workshop was intended to raise the ICT expertise at the grass root level stakeholders. Local journalists, academics, and NGO personalities attended the workshop.

1st April 2004   Satkhira Press Club facilitated a computer with internet connectivity
 

A multimedia computer with Internet connectivity has been donated by SDNP Bangladesh an UNDP funded project, on 1st April 2004 to Satkhira Press Club. Satkhira regional node has provided the access to Satkhira Press Club. SDNP's Khulna regional node has been located at the CPP outlet of the BDRCS at Satkhira, a strategic location for disaster prevention, environmental awareness and grass root level capacity development.

Mr G M  Monirul Islam Mini the president of the press club chaired the informal programme. System Administrator of SDNP Project Mr Riton Kumar Roy, Vice President of the Press Club Mr Mohsin Hossain Bablu, General Secretary Md Ali Shujon, Executive member and executive editor of “Juger Barta” Mr Habibur Rahaman Hobi  were also spoke on the occasion.  Mr Arifuzzaman SDNP Engineer and local news paper journalists were also present among others. This activity is a part of the media program of SDNP Bangladesh. This is a joint collaboration programme of the National Press Club Bangladesh and SDNP Bangladesh.

     
6th March 2004   Cox’s Bazar press Club is online
 

ACox’s Bazar Press club has got connected with Chittagong regional node of SDNP Bangladesh, which has been established at the Cox's Bazar CPP office of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society. The regional node started to operate from March 05, 2004.

A multimedia computer with Internet connectivity has been donated by SDNP Bangladesh on 6th March 2004 to Cox’s Bazar Press Club to facilitate local journalists of that region for prompt delivery of news and information nationally and internationally. From now on the journalists of Cox’s Bazar will not have to dial NWD to connect to Internet. They can readily connect to the Chittagong Regional Node of SDNP BD by making local calls. This activity is a part of the media program of SDNP Bangladesh. This is a joint collaboration programme of the National Press Club Bangladesh and SDNP Bangladesh.

     
18th February 2004   Barisal Press club gets connected with SDNP Barisal Regional node
  SDNP Barisal regional node provided a Internet connectivity to Barisal Press Club on 18th February 2004. Barisal Press Club has now online with Internet connectivity through SDNP Bangladesh’s Barisal regional node at the CPP (Cyclone Preparedness Programme)of Bangladesh Red Crescent society (BDRCS) in Barisal. As part of the media programme they have been given a set of multimedia PC with internet connectivity, so that the local journalists can easily access the internet by making calls. This programme is jointly collaborated by SDNP Bangladesh and Barisal Press Club.

A MOU signing ceremony was held on 25th January 2004. Mr AFM Obaidur Rahman, Secretary General of Bnagladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) and Dr M Asaduzzaman Project Director of SDNP have signed the MOU. Among others Mr Fazlul Wahab, Director, Cyclone Preparedness Program(CPP) and Dr M Hakikur Raman Project Coordinator of SDNP were present.

     
11 March 2004   PRSP Discussion Workshop was webcasted by SDNP Bangladesh
  A day long open discussion session on PRSP was held at the Abdur Rob Serniabat auditorium of Teachers Training College, Barisal on March 11, 2004. The PRSP Opening Ceremony was instantly webcasted by the SDNP Bangladesh ( www.sdnpbd.org/prsp/ ) team through their Barisal Regional Node situated at the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society office in Barisal.

  An orientation programme was held on 8 December 2003 regarding  internet service of BAU-Mymensingh Regional Centre in BAU Library. Dr. Md. Hakikur Rahman, Project Co-Ordinator of SDNP-Bangladesh was the speaker. Mr. Abdul Gafur Dewan, BAU Librarian Presided the Programme. Deans, Head of Departments, teachers and Heads of Sections attended the orientation Programme. About 60 participants were attended. Friendly discussion was held and suggestions were entertained to develop the Regional Centre. Dr. hakik said and hoped that they are working hardly for developing the system and it will come up to satisfaction very shortly.
Lastly Professor Dr. A.T.M. Ziauddin, President of the Internet Management Committee supplemented Dr. Hakik to some matters relating to the service. Mr. Reazul Hannan Md. Yusuf, Deputy Librarian (Doc) and Regional Support Staff of SDNP conducted the orientation programme. At the end tea was given for refreshment.
     
November 13th, 2003   Inauguration of Millennium Development Goals Bangla Portal
  On November 13th, the Sustainable Development Networking Programme (SDNP) of Bangladesh has launched their MDG portal (www.mdgbangla.org) in Bangla. The inaugural ceremony was held at the National Press Club and it was launched by Mr Shajahan Siraj MP and the Hon’ble Minister of Environment and forest. As the chief guest of the ceremony he lauded the role of SDNBD in developing the timely and needful portal on MDG and he also informed about the recent progress of the government, specially on the environment issues. Elimination of two wheelers from Dhaka city and ban on polythene are two important steps taken by his ministry. more...
     
July 31, 2003   Setting up of an Internet Exchange in Bangladesh
 

A workshop was held on “Setting up of an Internet Exchange in Bangladesh” at BIDS Conference room on July 31, 2003. Bill Woodcock and Gourab Raj Upadhaya of Packet Clearing House (www.pch.net) delivered keynote presentations in this issue.

The workshop was focused on

  • Benefit of Internet Exchange (IX) and it’s necessity

  • Goal of an IX in the content of Bangladesh.

  • Background, Technical aspects, and Solution Analysis.

  • Success stories in other countries, established through assistance of PCH

  • Edge of Technology implementation and any drawback.

Among others, personnel from major Internet Service Providers (ISPs) of Dhaka attended the workshop. The whole session was moderated by Dr. M. Hakikur Rahman, PC, SDNP.

Sustainable Development Networking Programme (SDNP) of Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) hold a ceremony for the launching of CD on the occasion of the World Environment Day on 8th June, 2003 at 4.00 PM at National Press Club Media Center.

Prof. M. Maniruzzaman Mia, former Vice Chancellor, Dhaka University and Convener Committee for Finalization of the National Water Management Plan attended the ceremony as the chief guest. He said that if we fail to supply pure drinking water to the mass people then all the initiatives regarding water development will bring us a total failure. He also said that every day so many children are dying due to shortage of pure drinking water that if twenty jumbo jet planes have crashed every day, it would not have caused that many deaths. 

Mr. Sabihuddin, the Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forest and National Programme Director of SEMP presided over the ceremony and gave his speech.  
Among others Mr. Reajuddin Ahmed, President, Jatiya Press Club (Special Guest) Dr. M. Aminul Islam, Sustainable Development Advisor, UNDP (Special Guest) gave their respective speeches. Dr. M. Asaduzzaman, the Research Director, BIDS and the Project Director, SDNP welcomed the guests at the beginning of the CD launching ceremony. After official launching of the CD by the Chief Guest, Prof. M. Maniruzzaman Mia, a brief show was conducted by the Project Coordinator of SDNP, Dr. M. Hakikur Rahman.

A workshop was held at the BIDS Conference Room on Sustainable Development Information (SDI) Databank.
The day long workshop was formally inaugurated by the Project Director of SDNP, Dr. M. Asaduzzaman. After the inauguration, a brief presentation on the current status of SDNP was given by the Project Coordinator, Dr. M. Hakikur Rahman. During the interactive workshop sessions, the Database Manager of SDNP Mr. Habibur Rahman, shared the SDI Databank on the Development Issues, Browsing Content, Searching, Content Uploading, and other issues related to the databank. The lively interactive sessions were participated by the
Sub Implementing Agencies of SEMP.

  Opening of First Regional Node of SDNP at BAU

In order to outreach SDN’s activities in the regional stations, the first regional node has been selected to be at Mymensingh. Being the largest education and research institute in Mymensingh, the project has selected the Bangladesh Agricultural University BAU as the possible host institute for setting up the regional node. The inauguration ceremony will be jointly organized by Bangladesh Agriculture University ( BAU) and Sustainable Development Networking Programme (SDNP) of Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) which will be formally opened by Hon’ble Minister for Environment and Forest Mr. Shahjahan Siraj MP.   BSS Financial Information Service (BFIS)-SDNP MoU

Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), the national news agency of the country, today entered into an agreement with Sustainable Development Netweoking Project (SDNP), a BIDS project funded by UNDP, with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). SDNP, under the MoU would extend technical support to BSS for its project, BSS Financial Information Service (BFIS) to be launched shortly.

  Wireless net strides Bangladesh

The computer lab at the Bangladesh Agriculture University in Mymensingh is little more than a building site. The only sign of any kind of technology is a tall radio mast on the roof of this leading agricultural college. But once the work is completed, the staff and students here will enjoy fast internet access via a wireless link to the capital, Dhaka, more than 100 kilometres away.

The university is one in a group of institutions of higher education due to be hooked up to the net using wireless technology, in a project (SDNP Bangladesh) funded by the United Nations Development Programme, (UNDP).

  ccTLD Name Server Training

Organised by: World Wide Alliance of Top Level Domain-names and SDNP Bangladesh. ccTLD Secretariat has initiated a ccTLD Name Server Training Program.  The goal is to outreach and help those small ccTLDs to get up to speed in operating Name Server efficiently and effectively. There  will be discussion and update on ICANN root server and IANA functions so that they all have a clear understanding.
